Best model and method to start e-commerce website???

Hi All,

I have been selling products via ebay for the last 5 years and are now looking at taking my selling off ebay and on to my own website. Any tips on the best software method to set up an online shop selling products. I have a Pay Pal account, so is it as simple as setting up so that people can pay me direct to that and how is the best method to do so?

Thanks in Advance

If you wanna spend money, get a pay cart like volusion or something. If you want to go free, Zen Cart is alright. I suggest building your catalog up slowly with unique product information.

There are a bunch of cool solutions, here are just a few of the free options out there that I have installed for people, no affiliate links or anything, just links to the demo stores to see what they look like, I'm sure you'll see something you like there.

    Presta Shop : Prestashop Demo
    OpenCart: Your Store
Magento: Home page - Magento Commerce Demo Store
    CubeCart: Blue Sun Corporation

I already have the website designed in dreamweaver. I just want the abilty for people to choose an item and then click a button to add to cart or purchase directly from the site. Best solution for this?

You could use 1shoppingcart, or Premium Web Cart to do that. You could also just use Paypal's shopping cart. Whichever way you go, you need to make sure you have a Paypal Business Account, not the Personal account. If you're really serious, use the Paypal Website Payments Pro.

        • Yes, you could use PayPal's shopping cart.

But are you sure you won't ever want all the bells and whistles that come along with fully-configured carts/ecommerce solutions?

You won't need coupons, gift certificates, an integrated blog, a customer management system, real-time analytics, cross-sell tables or any of that?

THIS is the point where quick-and-dirty can mean months of backbreaking work redoing it all later.

Oh right, sorry thought it was from scratch and wanted a full back end for it all.

Any reason why you can't just add a PayPal button to the page and use their shopping cart?

Thanks for the reply. Could do through pay pal like that . Just wanted to weigh up options and find out some pitfalls and benefits. Is this the best way just to do through pay pal.
What type of paypal account would people recommend if doing this.

      Thanks in advance

If you did go the simple route and use PayPal you definitely want a business account.

But there is a lot to be said for using a full ecommerce option as mentioned above (coupons, CMS etc)
