Some people are just never satisfied!

Have you ever bent over backwards trying to get a sale or make a customer happy and it still wasn't enough? In addition to bending over backwards they wanted you to do a somersault, a cartwheel, and a Triple Lindy while blindfolded?

Let me tell you about a exchange of emails I recently had and then please tell me if its ME who is crazy?

I received an email through my contact form at my PLR site asking if there was any other way I could accept payment besides Clickbank. Now I realize Clickbank has some downsides, especially for those who get hit with the VAT charge, so I figure I'd be accomodating and I wrote back saying...

"No I'm not really set up with anything other than Clickbank, but if you send me payment directly through Paypal and let me know which package you want I can send it to you manually. It'll take a bit longer since delivery won't be automated so please be patient."

I figure even though it will be more work for me it will help someone out and you never know if she'll end up being a long-term customer.

A few days go by and I get no response. Finally, I get a reply that I'll sum up as...

"I was trying to buy such-and-such package. I was going to use my Clickbank hoplink to get a rebate for myself but if I use Paypal I won't have to wait for Clickbank to send me payment. How much would you be willing to accept via Paypal?"

Now, it really doesn't bother me if someone uses their own hoplink, you've got to accept a certain amount of that when you use CB. But this is a measly $15 sale. I'm already willing to go out of my way to accomodate her and still she's looking to save an extra $5 bucks or so?

Meanwhile if she had told me that she was down on her luck and really couldn't afford the $15, could I give a little discount, I probably would have just sent it to her for nothing. But instead I just deleted the email and wrote it off as "not worth the trouble".

A couple days later I received another email saying, "I know its the holidays and I'm sure you're busy but I really need these articles for a project I'm working on. Please let me know how much you'll accept through Paypal."

I clicked the delete button again.

Was I wrong? Should I have gone the extra mile? I'm afraid I would have gotten caught haggling over price while she tried to get a better deal and frankly I have much more important things I could be doing. I mean...where do you draw the line?

I've never had this sort of problem with clients I bent over backwards for.

But if it ever comes to this, I'd stay in a little longer to see what could manifest. You really can't go wrong by helping someone out in this situation - even if they are as cheap as your client.

You weren't wrong - I would have answered the email mentioned "how much" with a simple "the price is stated". If she wants to go through her own affiliate link - she can wait for CB to pay her.

Probably - she knows she won't be paid till she meets CBs minimums.

She doesn't need help - she needs a dose of reality.

I would let it go as before you even sell her the membership she is becoming a pain.
I would expect she would want a refund after she got the articles she wants.

You could try to just sell her the articles for a one off fee.

I would have told her the only way to receive a discount was to purchase through her own hoplink and wait for her check!

Yes, I would just charge more for the inconvenience on your part. If she doesn't accept that, then she will either do it your way or miss out. How bad does she really need them? You'll find out.

I tend toward the "nice" end of the personality spectrum, so I probably wouldn't have just deleted her reply. However, you could just end the correspondence yourself: "The CB affiliate link is used to reward affiliates who handle the initial marketing and communications about my product. Because we are communicating directly with each other, I am not able to offer a discount through PayPal (which has its own fees, btw). If you'd like to purchase through PayPal, you may send your payment to [address]. Otherwise, I would have to refer you back to CB for your purchase. Thanks for understanding."

    The end.

Then, I might consider deleting after that!

Other wise posters have said something like, "What goes around comes around." I think at least a *little* extra goodwill goes a long way, sometimes surprisingly so.

I completely agree with you Bill, that's why I tried to be accomodating to her initial request. But my spidey-sense told me the more I respond the more I'd be feeding into it and it would just be dragged out endlessly. I'm always willing to be accomodating and helpful but some people will just try to take advantage. But whatever, I've got plenty of other things to concentrate on...just needed to vent a little.
