I need all the help I can get!

Hi Warriors,

I'm fast approaching my 73rd birthday coming up in September. I've been jackin' around with trying to make a little money online for more that six years. I've created more than 60 sites (mostly for Adsense) but also quite a number of affiliate sites. All this has added up to very little money made and a ton spent. This is not meant to be a "crying in my beer" post, rather to enlist the help of those who might have the time and expertise to guide me as I proceed with what will probably be my last project.

In this one, I'm joining with my wife in her passion, that being cooking and all things to do with food. We're creating an online magazine built around that niche. Of course, there's no shortage of sites offering recipes, therefore our main thrust will be to offer insights and tips in the area of food preparation with a few well chosen family recipes sprinkled in. See Food Digest signature.

So, I'm inviting all who can to visit the squeeze page, sign up for the pdf and get the first copy of the magazine. (it's on Aweber, so you can easily cancel if you choose). Then, give your feedback, either here in this thread, via PM or on the blog. I am open to all critique so please feel free to cover technical suggestions (BTW, I need someone to let me know how to include links to her Twitter and Facebook pages by PM), design improvement or value of content.

I would like to express my gratitude in advance to all who contribute.

Many Thanks,
JD

JD I will offer you a tip for your squeeze page, get a designer to completely redo it. It looks like you've done it yourself but if you are serious about monetizing the site you need a better layout and a better design.

Also you need to rethink your wording, there is no incentive to sign up nor any sense of urgency or excitement. Think copywriting and sales rather than presenting some bland facts.

I know this might come across as a tad harsh but you need to change everything about that page.

By the way you can get some fantastic designs done on fiverr or one of it's clones for very little money.

Thanks, Ian. I will definitely look into fiverr.

Hi JD, I agree with Ian. Your Food site is ok, the email form should match the color of your site and not be the stock Aweber form.

Your "affair" website has the stock "twenty one ten header". At least you could make a new header that flows with the site.

I know you can get a decent header created from fiverr as was suggested.

If you can build a list (give away something really good to entice op-tins) You can make it!

      Good luck!

In my experience, my income has always been directly linked to the relationships I have had with my subscribers on my database.

I know a lot of people starting an
Internet business, and some a few years down the road ask me when they will start making some income from the net... the answer I give them is always the same, when you have invested some time and effort not only building your list, but also building your relationships.

It's a good thing that you are now concentrating on building a list, as well as AdSense and affiliate blog sites.

I would agree though with the previous comment, that a simple aweber opt in form on a wordpress site would have a far better conversion ratio and give a better impression to first time visitors if you got a designer to help you.

    I hope this helps.

    Kindest

    Nick

    JD,
Kudos on your perseverance! Regarding your site, rewriting your sales copy and focusing on the benefits of joining your list would probably help your cause. Additionally, the autoresponder Thank You pages could be improved. Lastly, you may want to offer a bonus to those who sign up, even if you take out part of the freebie to create the bonus.
    Good luck!

Thanks to Nick, Mark and Moccinter. Seems that my first step is to get a redesign on the squeeze page and a rewrite of the text. I am definitelty going to take action in that regard.

I am also interested in hearing about my free gift, the pdf. Any comments on that. Does it appear to have a good value. I know it has a lot of time invested in it. I hope it waS worthwhile.
