    Ebay. Then writing.

Proper IM? Still a newb. Want to go in a lot of directions but can't seem to charge forward with one thing. Partly because I don't want to put all my eggs in one basket, and partly because I'm so distracted by needing cash that it's hard for me to concentrate on long term solutions.

Which is ironic, because had I started any IM thing months ago (when I was also in a cash crunch) I'd be making some dough.

Sorry for the rambling! Short answer-ebay!

2007 I was making money with forex niche and adsense.

One day I stumbled upon some stupid incentive website thing called "freebie trading".

It took off and I made $20k that year doing "freebie trading".

Thats pretty much all but dead now so I moved on to more permanent online income for offline businesses and CPA.

I started out reselling Hosting and had about 50 clients on a part-time basis. Then someone bought out the reseller I was working with and everything went south (including my customer's websites with no backups). Needless to say, that was over.

Then I did a lot of eBay stuff by going to yard sales and the like. That's a lot of work. Best if you can find a niche on eBay and carve out a bit for yourself but I wanted something more hands off.

Today, I have several autoblogs that still bring in a nice chunk of change each month (also from eBay!). And, currently I'm building a mobile marketing site.

Tried for nearly three years to make it online and failed miserably before I started selling a few copies of an ebook I wrote on effective teaching. The sales were pitiful really and it's heart breaking when you put all your time into a project to see only a handful of sales.

But things took a massive just a few months later - a lady in Singapore picked up my book online and asked me to run a live 2-day training course based on the ebook to school teachers over there. I had a two-week, all expenses paid trip out there with my son plus a very large fee. I returned to the UK and set up behaviourneeds.com. Haven't looked back since.

Stick in and follow your gut. (not hard in my case, too many pies lately).

I started out designing websites and search engine marketing for clients in 1999 and made great income with that for years.

I had several hundred clients I made websites for and still do and I make good money till today charging them for hosting fees.

I am also doing fairly well with adsense and affiliate sales through content writing on sites like Squidoo and others and through several of my niche sites.

I made my first profit online when I advertised an offline affiliate marketing opportunity on a job site, and my voice mail box blew up the next day with people wanting to give me money to be a part of my opportunity. So it was hybrid between offline and online.

My first and LAST clickbank check of $36.00 took me two months and about $1500 in trial and error to make.... Although today I could pull it off Im sure, but I dont like click bank.

Hmmm... then I tried ebay with a modicum of success... too much like work though...handling physical products, and always having to update listings and manage auctions... Made money but not enough to make it something I wanted to keep doing.

I have represented large manufacturers online with thousands of units of distressed inventory that they wanted to sell overseas in bulk, after I discovered how badly that service was needed, and since I have made thousands in commissions flipping their deals on Alibaba... and have several manufacturers who contact me when they need to move bulk now.

Take your pick... What makes you feel passionate?

Making money can be translated to just "Making a transaction".

"Getting in on all the commerce, millions of dollars worth, that are ALREADY going on around you, and opening a channel for some of those transactions to flow your way, through your "idea".

    For Surefire Business:

"Offline" never fails to make money, its as sure as you are ALWAYS, and "Only"... You can always fall back on that, because the principles of selling services never change... people "need" them.

    Hope this helps.

In around 2000 owned an offline magazine and sold copies on ebay for £1 each. The profit came from subscriptions and selling advertising space not the £1s. Around that time I joined the 6 figure income programme and made some money from that from advertising it in my magazine.

In 1997 I sold a game (Privateer) to some Italian guy for $20. I shipped it on 7 floppy disks. Then I built my own auction website (hand coded in Perl) for selling collectibles online. I had about 200 registered members. Then came eBay and I made a huge mistake and closed the site and started selling on ebay in June 1997. I should have continued to work on my own auction website.

I am active in Ebay before. I used to "buy and sell" mobile phones of any kind. But I do the selling locally because I'm more on meeting my clients than delivering the units. In this case, I can see their reactions face to face and to also double check if the units they got are working fine.

In the late '90's my partner and I developed some opt-in autoresponders and had some success, then email filters got more sophisticated. Shortly after that I did ebay and some pay-per-click, did well for a while but at the end mostly broke even. Have some adsense sites up now that do OK, always trying to find a balance between building more sites and taking time to enjoy life.

I made my first profit online about a year and a half ago by selling information ebooks on how to hack on a hacking forum.

However, my first legitimate IM income was from about 6 months ago when I started my first CPA campaign. I used article marketing by finding offers in the electronics niche (I am an electrical engineer and a big nerd) and wrote about the offers. I linked my domain redirect to the cpa offer, and just watched the money start slowly trickling in.

Started in article marketing promoting some Clickbank products. Took a LOT of hits to my websites but I did make a few hundred dollars in commissions. I'm finding that writing online content for others (like articles and blog posts) is more in demand.

Ahhhhh I remember it well - it was about 2003. I got a $64 check for selling a piece of software for stopping junk e-mail - well 3 copies of it. I felt like I'd won the lottery because it was proof that affiliate marketing works :-D

The worst part is that as your income grows you can get really complacent about what you're earning. Never get complacent and NEVER rely on a single source of online income because it can vanish overnight if things change.

I have a story similar to that of NiallR's...My first profit online came in 2002 when I promoted a product called "Millionaire at 31 on the Internet" by Stephan Ducharme. I had doubts about the whole IM thing, but when I logged into my affiliate account one day and saw that I'd made a $75 commission, I thought, "Holy s&%#! It works!" Unfortunately, it was a one-hit-wonder, as I never made another dime on the Internet until some years later.
