A Better Way to Keep My Likes

I've been giving away a free eBook if people "Like" my Facebook fan page, so the only way they can get the book is if they like the page, then they can download it instantly. Problem is, I'm pretty sure most people are liking the page, then unliking it as soon as they download it as horrible as that sounds as I can see the counter going up by one and then immediately drop pretty frequently.

I'm giving away a 40 page eBook I put time and sweat into and people won't even leave the like in place after downloading it... pretty lame. I thought that would be a good way to kick up the likes but it doesn't seem to be working, so if someone else has ideas on how to better secure my likes, that'd be great!

I guess I could make videos out of all of the content and put upload them to the Facebook page, that way people would have to like the content to access the videos so it wouldn't be as easy to unlike me if they still wanted the content.

    Maybe your ebook isn't good?

I don't see why people wouldn't stay liked for more content from someone who gave them a valuable piece of information ...

Just because you put your heart and soul into something doesn't always make it good ... this could be one of those times ...

Treat it as a learning experience ... maybe share your books URL so we can scan over it and see what you've put together, it could be your page layout just as well.

Or your autoresponders if you are contacting them via mail?

Also why not make video content for deeper subjects on the book and put them on the FB page and build a YT community?

Give us some idea of your scope and plan ...

    Cheers,
    -Konstantin.

Did you try fiverr for likes? or is that you are trying to get them in a more natural way

I'm surprised people are unliking it if they enjoyed the ebook! Maybe post more stuff on your page that is relevant and interesting. Or try to make the ebook better so they want to stay around...maybe adding something like "If you liked this ebook, you'll love what I share on the Facebook page."

Also, how are they coming to find you on the FB page? Maybe the traffic isn't coming from the right place to get them to stay? Just a thought.

Sounds like the quality of the ebook is questionable or perhaps you're targeting the wrong group. If I liked someone's page and then they gave me valuable information I certainly would keep subscribed hoping that they'd give me more valuable information. On the other hand if I like a page or subscribe to an email list and the quality of the freebie is poor or it's just not something I'm interested in, I'm more apt to withdraw my like or unsubscribe from that person's list.

Good points everyone. I was suggesting that people were unliking my page immediately after downloading the book but before they read it. So they would like the page, download the book, unlike the page, all within a span of a few seconds. But I guess if people aren't doing that for you guys then they're probably not doing it to me. (I'm just assuming it doesn't happen to you guys, you probably aren't even giving away a freebie eBook via this method on your Facebook pages but I'd be interested in some sort of case study on this)

Two things I've realized. One, I haven't sent enough traffic at the page to see a real pattern yet (I freaked out way too early so I'll check back soon after doing more testing). Two, "Fitz" you may be right in saying that I'm targeting the wrong group.

It's the online marketing niche (of course) and my book is on a specific aspect of marketing which may be a bit advanced for my readers and the people whom I'm sending there.

I'd probably get A LOT more likes if I gave away a book about how to get likes, but seeing as I don't have many likes myself I don't see how I can give away a book about how to get more likes and expect any kind of results... oh the irony!

I give away another eBook for signing up for my mailing list and I'm wondering if I can get away with making people not only sign up for my list but also to "like" my Facebook page to get it, as well. Then after they sign up they'll see the book is on my Facebook page so they can get it by liking the page. Though if I do that then they'll probably unsubscribe from the email list AND unlike me for making them sign up when they just had to go to my Facebook page to get the book.

Sorry for the rant/thinking out loud in this thread but if anyone has opinions on those last couple of paragraphs then by all means!

If you are dealing with just a few hundred people its going to be easier to see the natural decline and fall of people liking your page. Get a whole lot more fans so you don't have to worry about it. I have one page with over 167,000 fans so I don't worry about counting how many I lose in a day because its constantly spreading and gaining. Focus on the gaining more fans and then what you can do to keep them on board. Take a look at your status updates and how often you post to see if it is interesting to your fans or not. I have a freebie that they can get for liking the page, but I highly doubt they are joining just for that. My page grew just as much before that. Unfortunately I don't think there's a really great way to track this kind of things in FB...yet!
