Product Ready to Launch - Same Site/Diff Site

I'm in the pre-launch phase for my product. I've got an active blog, ranked, opt-ins coming at about 15% conversion rate.

I'm wondering about "the site" to launch my product from. I'm going to have a video series with social media, etc. leading up to sales video. So here's the question.

Do I :

a) use the existing site/domain, replacing the home page with optin page?
b) use a directory off the main site as the "product" page ie. wwwDOTmyrankeddomainDOTcom/product
OR
c) do I get a new domain just for launching/hosting the product?

My main concern is twofold:

1) Affecting my existing site ranking by turning it into a squeeze page
2) Perception, branding, connection. People in the niche are getting to know my primary domain. Word is out. Do I capitalize on that for the launch or just direct my launch to another easy to remember launch site?

Thanks for weighing in!

Doug

To me, option a) is a no go. I wouldn't do anything that could affect your indexed / ranked pages. Options b) and c) are both okay. I guess it's a matter of personal preference and also of how massive the product is. Generally, if it's small, keep it on the same domain. It's it's big and especially if it has a membership site behind it, put it on a separate domain.

Obviously, there's also an "in-between" option, hosting it on a subdomain. I don't see much benefit to that, just wanted to make sure all options get consideration.

      I would say option B.

If your site is already indexed and ranked well and people know about it - then stick with it.

It would also be easier for marketing purposes and link juice from your main keep the consistency in the domain and product. Less confusing and work all around. IMHO

I agree, go with Option B. Option B is also favoured by Kim Roach and seems to work well for her.

Why don't you get a new domain name?

If the product is related to the subject matter your blog is talking about, then creating a page on your blog for the sales letter won't affect anything. Many people, including big name gurus sell products by create sales letters on pages on their blog.

And also, a lot of people who visit your sales letter will likely remove the /product from yousite.com/product and you may end up getting additional traffic to your blog.

I would always go for a separate domain.

Sure , you want to associate yourself with your brand, but separate domain is always better choice.

Also, if after the launch is over and you would like to double your profit, you can easily sell the site and the product.

But if you keep it on your own domain, you cant really sell it separately.

Use your already ranked site. Since you are already prominently visible on social media and search engines it is the best to use the same site for laucnhing your product. If you launch your product from new domain you will have to start from scratch again which will be certainly a tedious journey. Best of luck for your product launch.
