How do you approach Facebook marketing?

In May users spent over 250 billion minutes on Facebook, thats more time then people spend at Google and Microsoft.

I have trouble understanding what converts best on Facebook as many campaigns seem to fail and yet the most unlikely seem to have massive success. I have started making Fan pages for my websites, adding social buttons and marketing directly on Facebook to increase my user base.

Many of my traditional niches do not do so well, but after experimenting I am finding niches which do very well. I guess the ultimate niche for facebook would be a zygna type game, but that requires big resources to pull off properly.

What are your thoughts?

I use facebook marketing mostly for local clients who are trying to connect with their customers. I also use it a lot to build up hype for website launches if the site is interesting enough, it's a great way to get beta users.

Also, if you've created your own product then it can be a great place to promote it... but for affiliate stuff, I generally avoid it - although I know some people have success there.

Yeah, a game could be a winner too... if you know how to monetize it.
