SHOCKER: 3% To 7.5% Of Fans See Your Page's Posts

I thought I'd share a very insightful post that provides real statistics about the results of facebook postings.

Based on my personal theory that most facebook users that are willing to "like" your fan page are also more likely to like others/many fan pages, which ends up creating a huge news feed page for them.

I think most people's news feed is so crowded, they can't possibly see/react to very many posts. Let me know what you think.

This doesn't suprise me at all. Nowadays they say the average Facebook user has over 180+ friends or something ridiculous like that. This means the news feed the average Facebook user sees when they login moves quite fast so your message is not going to last long in there. Unless the person is logged in to their account around the time you post your fanpage update then they will miss seeing your post.

This is why it is very important to get your fans on to your email list as well.

If Fans are reacting to the posts more will see it. The more interesting and interactive your stuff is the longer it will stick at the top of the top news feed. I am a fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and I see every post without fail because lots of people comment on each one. Of course their fan page is way more popular than any of ours will be.

I normally don't when I login scroll down my newsfeed but just look at what I can see on the screen and I think most do that.

A video or a pic catches my attention more than a single post of text only.

Agree, it is the same for me too. Whenever I sign in there's just a lot of new updates on the newsfeed and I just usually scroll down and most of what gets my attention would either be a picture or a video, oh and a very very catchy caption...

That is so right, just looking at my own usage of it I can say this is definitely true. That's why I always unlike a lot of pages because my news feed is crowded with news I'm not interested "anymore".

Facebook users have a hard time finding the "unlike" button and in result they have an overloaded news feed. Hint, the unlike button is on the fan page, left side bar in the button, go and hit "unlike"

This is barely shocking. I wouldn't expect anything else, honestly.

That's not shocking to me either. I've liked pages and never looked at them again.

The thing is, sometimes you have to "like" a page for this or that, and once you've gotten this or that, you don't really care about the page anymore. All you ever cared about was the this or that, not the page itself.

So, to an extent, offering people something in order to like your page may be counterproductive, because they're not sincerely liking your page, but only clicking a button to get a freebie or whatever.

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.

I think there is too much of a 'like this, like that' attitude to facebook and while that can be good for marketing, it can also be very bad for marketing for the reasons mentioned in the original post.

That's why it's very important to keep your fanpage active. The fanpages I notice the most on my newsfeed, are the ones that post several times in a day. You also need to get dialog going. Because when someone chats on your fanpage, then their entire friend's list has the potential of seeing it. A fanpage is not like a sales page where you can set it and forget it. You have to spend hours nurturing it like a garden. And like a garden - if you're persistent, you'll reap rewards.

Gary is 100% right, one of my pages has over 185k fans and growing, and the page does this through interaction. If fans don't interact, facebook takes note, and doesn't post fan page updates on their feed! That's why it is important to get interaction!

For example... my fan page is I <3 Basketball, so I'll post crap like "Like this status if you Love Basketball" or "Like This Status if MJ Is the best of all time" and stuff like that... just to get interaction, to remain popping up on their feed. As long as they interact a bit, facebook will assume the people are interested. So my two cents be sure to throw in "Interaction posts"!

My average post is making over 70k impressions on average just by keeping them involved! This is how I grow the page.

idk about you guys but I check my Facebook multiple times a day and make sure I see every post I'm sure most people are like that. Facecrack! I update my fanpage once a day but now I think I'm going to do like 3 post all spread out one morning, evening, and afternoon. Thanks for the tips.

James, just wake up an even set some autoposts via hootsuite to guarantee some interaction. I usually wake up and set 5-1-0 planned posts, with 1-2 sending to youtube vids of mine with killer content, and then a call to action for my free gift squeeze. Then I will just post throughout the day when the mood strikes, or I see something relevant

It must be exactly the same with Twitter. I can't imagine how those people who have over 20,000 followers can monitor all those tweets. I never accept a follow from someone who is following that many people.

Anyone who thinks that a "Like" on Facebook is better than having someone's actual e-mail address is out of their minds. All these FB courses are out there saying "add 20,000 people to your list!" when really they're just LIKING your page, which is a totally different animal.

Plus you have to take into account that people aren't on FB to buy anything...they want to play Farmville and look at pictures of kittens dressed like Captain Picard. They're not ready to whip out their credit cards and buy what you're selling.
