Your guide to creating threads on WF that WONT get deleted

I have found it very frustrating when I create threads that I think are jam packed with valuable information only to see them get deleted. After doing some snooping it turns out this type of thing happens all the time. From my curiosity and bugging the mods I have found a few tips that might help others

  • The forum isn't for advertising
    • Even if you aren't really advertising something but have something related to your thread in your signature your thread might get deleted. Basically if you create a thread bragging about how much you are earning with some tips on how others can do the same (even though it may be helpful) this causes a lot of people to click on your sig and that likely raises a few red flags which gets your thread deleted.
  • Don't write articles
    • I wrote a few very long and detailed posts thinking I was doing a favour to the forum, but they got deleted. I have now learned the forum is for discussion, not an article directory
  • Don't do "ask me anything" or Q&A threads
    • The mods see this as a way for you to bump your thread over and over and it will get deleted
So what is okay to post then?
  • Any thread the entices discussion or is a sincere question you have. I thought by writing detailed posts with all kinds of tips I was helping the community, but I agree it is a form of advertising me as a "guru" and would result in a lot of clicks on my sig.
  • If you want your threads to NOT be deleted keep them simple, don't bump them by answering questions over and over, and don't post articles that give away a lot of info.
That's what I have gathered anyways, just my opinion, I am not a mod or anything, just a new(er) member trying to follow the rules and not piss off the mods!

    Jeremy,

That's a pretty good summary, although it misses a few things. You've hit the key, though. Take it slow and steady.

Besides, you get more attention and "rep" (to borrow a term often used on other forums) if you're answering questions on your topic.

Here's my version of the answer to your subject line.

I'll add that you might want to check to see if there isn't already a discussion underway on the topic. The main forum has now seen it's third Google/FTC thread today.

Some good points were covered. Also, don't say things such as check out my signature or you can find in my signature blah blah blah. There is also a section here to post articles for a small fee so that would be a good place for long articles.

It's not just about "bugging the mods" it's about
    the community as a whole.

When you ignore common courtesy and common
    sense you are bugging everyone.

Remember... the Main Forum is a discussion forum
where we talk about making money and it's NOT
the place for discussions on SEO, Adsense, Product
Reviews, or other topics that have their own
    dedicated forum.

    Jeremy,

Whenever I read any of your threads I get two recurring impressions:

    1. You are desperate to let people know you are an adsense guru.

    2. You are arrogant ("I'm only gonna answer 3 questions").

Also this thread is a bit of a disconnect with your sarcastic comment in your WF profile "Sorry for helping".

In most forums there are unwritten rules and one of the common ones is "Thou shalt not rub people up the wrong way".

There are several stickies (permanent threads) at the top of the main forum specifying specific rules. There is an excellent video series as well on using the forum. If you're a new member I highly suggest reading them especially to help you pick up on the 'unwritten' rules that every community adopts over time.

As the OP said and Paul restated - when you're new here take it slow and read. When you have something constructive to add to a topic - do so.

Also if you have a specific question - take advantage of the support/help desk system here.

    best,

Before you even think about taking up Thomas' time at the Help Desk with questions about what should be common knowledge for anyone participating in an online discussion group, make sure you read the stickies at the top of Main Discussion. Then read these if you're still not sure.

Rule #1 is stated in the thread http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ing-forum.html

The "other" Rule #1 is: Don't waste Thomas' time with trivia to which you should already know the answer.

      Seriously. Just don't.

This is one of the things I notice all the time. I know it's been brought up before, but the number of one-liners and pointless posts are frustrating at times - when you're reading a thread, it flows much better and is much easier to read without the

      "I just sent pm'd you"

"I just sent you a pm back"

"check out my sig for information on this"

      "just downloading now"

"just had xx for lunch" (only joking but sometimes I think it's coming )
I can understand people want to increase their post count and/or get their signature link out there, but I see that as one of the quickest and easiest ways to annoy and convince people not to take you seriously.

Adding quality comments and value are the best ways to get your name out, build a good reputation and establish the best relationships on any forum.

On the flip side though, I can also see how a lot of newbies might feel intimidated that they don't have anything relevant to add, or might be put off posting because they're unsure of the forum rules and etiquette. Videos and guides can be really helpful with this.
