ConstantContact ... Preloaded and Pre-opted in subscribers?

Hi Warriors,

I've always been using GetResponse.

As I understand, we can import subscribers into GetResponse but they would need to do a confirmation (essentially opting in) before they can be part of a campaign.

Here's the thing ...

I've got a friend who has a ton of subscribers on his list (no less than 20,000) and because of the way GetResponse works, he needs to look for another solution.

Does ConstantContact allow "pre-opted in subscribers" by importing (not sure if that's the right way of wording it but you get it) so that we can broadcast messages to them (without the need for another confirmation)?

Any assistance is appreciated.

Contact Constant Contact and ask them would be the best solution.

More than likely, the answer will be no.

This is one of the reasons I warn people to choose carefully. Selecting an autoresponder is a marriage. It's 'till death due us part', and the divorce is quite messy.

If that's the case, what's the best workaround / solution then if re-opting in is not a solution?

Exact Target does not require this, but they are not cheap.

Most of the autoresponder places like GetResponse and so forth do sometimes allow you to import leads without having them to re-opt-in on a case by case basis.

You usually can't do this on your own, but you can contact them to ask for a special exception. They'll usually ask where you got the list from, if you have their IP's, etc., and then if you pass on the list, if they think it's legit, you might be in luck.

I've done this before without any problems, but you do have to show that the list was legit to start with. For instance, going from "well respected autoresponder A" to "well respected autoresponder B" shouldn't be a big problem. Whereas going from "some unknown list origin A" to "well respected autoresponder B" probably isn't going to fly in most cases.

That said, the only other solution is to host it yourself with your own A/R as far as I know.
Nah, check with top notch autoresponders like GetResponse, Aweber, iContact, etc. and give them details of your list that you're trying to import and ask if they can do it themselves without having the subscribers re-opt-in. Of those three, I know that two of those for a fact will do it if you can prove that it's a legit list.

iContact will allow him to do this, but all his messages for a while will have to be approved by a human before they're released to the mail queue. Reviews are done 24/7 and take at most 30 minutes if not sooner. They do this to prevent spammers. They also will monitor the account for complaints for a while too.
I use them for my lists and have been very happy.
    best,
