Hostgator performance

I've been a customer for Hostgator for more than 2 years. They have been good. A few months ago I put a cron function in another server to check if my website is down for every 15 minutes and email me if the server is down. I feel they are often down recently. I just check my emails and it appears that in the last 10 days they are down 11 times, an average of 1 down in one day. The downtime does not last long since I did not receive another email after 15 minutes.

Is this normal?

      Hi,

They were down for me yesterday for a short period. They're still my primary host and I'm happy with them.

I noted when I used their live chat it said that they had over 300 support reps in conversations - that's a lot! So I would guess that as they keep growing, they will have some issues, but they have always dealt with them quickly in my experience and their support staff are trained to actually give a **** about their customers concerns, which is something I haven't always found elsewhere.

No. It is down when I check it. I also got clients in that server, and they often complain to me that their website is down.

I found my sites down for short while recently. Almost 5-6 times in 2 weeks. I used their live chat support to find out the reason, most of the time they mentioned they are fixing it. There a few times the sites are already back up so they didn't even know about that.

I am also concern about this. Just need to give them some time and see if the server will become stable ...

Instead of a 15 minute cron job, something like Pingdom might be more accurate for accessing downtime.

IMO Hostgator used to be really good but since they are so popular, their uptime may have suffered over time. Just an opinion. Really depends on the server you are on and your resource usage...
