Help please! Updated Wordpress and Ruined My Site!!

I actually don't know what went through my head but I updated wordpress from 3.1.2 to worpress 3.1.3. Upon doing this my whole website has been ruined. Is there any way to get it back to the previous wordpress so it works!?
Edit: I'm actually not sure what the previous version was that's the problem. It could have been Wordpress 3.1 or 3.03.

You might want to ask your web host if they have a backup they can revert to. Not sure how that works with wordpress.

    Good luck.

What exactly do you mean by "ruined"?

Does it give an error or does it just look wonky?

You need to provide more info if possible! Disable all plugins and see how your website works after - there is a good chance it could be a plugin that is incompatible with the newer version of wordpress.

I second this. Disable your plugins and reactivate them one at a time to see if one is the cause of the problem.

You should also consider one of the plugins that does automatic backups for you - saving them to your PC for future use.

I hope your hosting provider can help you with a backup if the plugins aren't the problem.

  • This is my worst nightmare and why I haven't upgraded WP yet, because I don't fully understand the backup options. You can do manual backups or install automatic backup plug-ins.

I'm pretty sure I could get a backup/restore from my hosting company but you never want to rely on that.

    Sorry this happened to you.

usually shared hosting companies don't backup clients sites, they leave it to the clients to perform backups. There should be an option to perform backups in cpanel, in addition to that there is backup plugins for wordpress.

Any shared hosting account with Hostgator using less than 20 gigs of disk space and not exceeding Hostgator's 100,000 inode limit gets an automatic weekly backup. That includes all databases as well.

      They are just great!

Phew thanks for all your answers guys. I managed to sort it all out quickly with Hostgator. They said they'd restore it for me for an extra $15. That to me is a bargain. It was from my own stupidity that I got myself into this mess in the first place.

Good to hear, at least next time you now know to back it all up yourself and if there is a problem, revert for free.

i think for 15 bucks it is okay. Remember that backing up is always your responsibility and not the hosting company in budget hosting arena. It just cost to much to bundle backup servers / resources in my opinion. You pay less but with the functions you can do as just about the same.
