Which one of these ways it better to build a list?

I have a site that I am currently setting up, in a good niche. I am adding content but would like to grow a list in this niche. I am wondering which one of the following two options is better.
1.) Create a small ebook about the information and how to treat said niche and say "free ebook - sign up here" ect.
Or
2.) Put the ebook information on the actual site, and say something like: to gain additional information every week add your email here...

I am just not sure which one will be better converting. I know alot about the niche so I would be able to write a ebook about this.

    Option 3 ) break down that ebook into a 10 day or so newsletter and advertise it as a "course"

    Do all three!
    Create enough info that you can offer a big prize (the ebook or the course) immediately and still drip info to them over time.

      Okay, I dont see what you mean, soo do I promote signing up to my list as actually getting the ebook or as the additional information over the following weeks? Im not sure how I would actually make money from selling of the clickbank product if I offered the ebook though...

    Make it in a newsletter tutorial for one week or one month. Present interesting and useful bit of information to the readers so that every time they read your newsletter they get compelled to visit your site.

    Do both, find out which got more people to opt-in, then do more like that. Marketing is 95% testing.

    But don't just set it and forget it once you have one thing getting a few regular people opting in, keep making more and more things and see how those do. List building needs to be a constant on-going process if you want to make great money.

    If you're trying to decide which to do first? Always do the one that is faster to make first, then the next fastest, then the next fastest, and so on.

    Basically what I mean is, you are asking about what converts. No one here can tell you the right answer, they will just give you their best guess from their experiences. Which doesn't matter because your customers are different than theirs. Just set it up both ways, and TEST.

      Well, you're compiling a list of people that are interested in a certain kind of product, ie. a make money list will buy make money products, created by both yourself and those provided through JV's.

      So, I think you should just try everything and anything, creating the list is the most important thing here, not how it is done.
