Calling Up People for Aged Domains

Hey,

I know that besides all the other components of SEO, having an aged domain is very good and helps rank faster. I am in a sub division niche of health/dieting and have found with the WhoIs Tool some really good parked/ currently unused domains. With the WhoIs Tool as you guys know, you get some of the owners contact information.

Because good/new domains these day are so scarce I think I'm am going to start contacting old aged domain owners. Have you guys had any success from calling/contacting old domain owners? Do the majority of these precious name owners seem to be very up to date on how much their domain could possibly be worth? Or are they typically just someone who bought the domain and never touched it sense?

There's obviously more professional ways of doing this through Flippa.com and more. But I thought maybe I could strike it good with some of these owners that bought the domain some 15+ years ago, and don't use it anymore.

Thanks!

Hi, I was into domain trading a couple of years back..

The website age does matter but to a very less extent. Mailing them is a better idea but sites on Flippa can get you a good deal as the owners have already built some backlinks plus have good alexa rankings.

I woulod suggest to go for flippa!! That's Just my 2 cents!!

Well I have been browsing around on flippa and seen some pretty good deals, but there's just one thing holding me back on it. It seems that the only reason someone would sell their website is because they aren't making any money. I know they all have different reasons like "I'm to busy, I build sites for fun, etc. " but if their site was even slightly valuable I don't think they would sell it.

I know you can sometimes turn these sites into gold, but if I am a beginner, they are pretty experienced, and they aren't making profit, then it shows I probably wouldn't be able to do anything with the site.

Personally, I dislike receiving emails from my WhoIs info but I almost always sell my domain if someone calls me. Verbal communication has always/will always have a tendency to build more trust than a email.

I always let unknown numbers go to voicemail, so I am sure that they may too. Leave a specific message about why you are calling. I dislike receiving vague messages like "I have a question about one of your domains."

In terms of buying the domains, I have only tried Sedo and those guys always think their domain is worth too much. Never bought one...

I don't want them calling me. I want it all to go through eMail. But, whether I sell has everything to do with the money offered and not the contact method.

Buying aged domains is good ( I bought some ) but you have limitations on the domain name selection. When you buy a new domain, you can choose whatever.

I'd personally recommend emailing first, personally if I received a random phone call from some guy wanting my domain I know I'd have the negotiating position and I'd think that this guy SERIOUSLY wanted my domain.

If I get emailed first, and then asked for my phone number then I'd have my guard down a bit and wouldn't play such hardball.

I buy/sell domains and have NEVER got a call for one of my domains even though my # is listed. All sales/buys have been from email so no biggie here.
