the search engine of the future...?

LOL, I went to Google.com and searched for "boots" the top result is for a cometic company called "boots"

I have to say this top ten ranking stuff is so YESTERDAY...

but TODAY, there is a new way to search...

simply type in a keyword into your search bar and what is displayed to you is...

...not the top ten search results
...not a map of local businesses
...not images that are pulled from sites
...not youtube videos

what then?

the results would look like this:

largest sites, then from left to right it would have small screen shots of the largest sites

most "liked" sites in facebook about "searchterm", then from left to right it would have small screen shots of the most liked sites about this search term in facebook.

local sites, then from left to right it would have small screen shots of the most local sites to you

sites that offer free information about "searchterm", then from left to right it would have small screen shots of sites that are free that have to do with your search term

sites that sell "searchterm", then from left to right it would have small screen shots of sites that sell services about whatever you searched for.

videos, then from left to right it would have small screen shots of videos

newest sites, then from left to right it would have small screen shots of the newest sites

I believe seven rows or so would fit comfortably and if you hover over the little screen shots, they expand, also there are arrows to the right of the rows and when you click or hover over them, it flows like a reel, and you can view literally hundreds or thousands of websites in minutes, like flipping through a book in your bookstore and the screen shots appear expanded to about 4x4 inches or so, now this is browsing!

what are your ideas on this, and how could it be implemented and who is going to steal this idea, tweak it and get rich? who knows? it could be YOU!

    Hi,
Nice writing and I really enjoyed it while studying your post. There are many more ideas about future search engine but this one is awesome and I am impressed by it. What is your source of information to write these details.

Big G and facebook are in the school yard and it's about to go down, however, I've got my money on facebook, search is on the decline, and to be frank, mobile phones will replace laptops for most users, I dare someone to tell me I'm wrong...

The main reason the stats show an increase in mobile phone web browsing is because people are using them for apps like gaming, facebook, twitter, e-mailing etc...

Laptops and desktop are still dominating the web browsing field when it comes to doing important things like find products, buy products, doing research and such... The way things are now, no way cell phone will replace laptops.

I use my tablet (iPad2) for the forum posting, some research and reading. But they can only go so far(just like cell phones), sometimes I regret buying it, but then again, I'm an Apple addict... And I obviously couldn't live without it.

exactly pimpin, and furthermore, I'm on the move, I don't have time to sit at my laptop, I'm too busy, renting movies at the red box and checking out the fine chicks at work at "G" by guess at the mall.

Yes, it's really stupid being shown the sites by people who just manipulated the search engines ( SEO ) instead of sites by people who are good at whatever you are searching for. As of now, it doesn't matter if you are the best message therapist, you also have to be a message therapist that is a pro at SEO, or you need to have enough money to hire an SEO pro and it's such a waste of money and effort. Honestly, SEO should be banned. And it's surprising me to to say that because that is how I get all my traffic, but I believe the BEST CONTENT should win, not popularity or backlinks or "likes" etc.

it's silly that you think it's silly. my search engine idea would actually use Google's own search engine, it's really just a new interface. Re-read the post and come back once you get it.

I love the keyboard and I'm still wondering how I'm going to do business because honesty I hate mobile web, but that is where everything is headed, you don't have to like it, but it's coming, I think we'll all be using our voice to type, which would make the keyboard obsolete. They just need to improve voice recognition software, they may be able to use the facial recognition software to try to understand what we are saying by how we are forming our facial muscles, who knows...

Google has become what is today because of one thing:

    Simplicity and EASE of use.

Sure they are straying from that and have made mistakes and are trying new things....

But to be blatantly honest, the ideas you mention here are kind of a jumble of thoughts and random ideas plastered into one another. You're trying to do too much, just like many of the "search engines of the future" tried to do and failed.

Your idea would work the best on a touch screen device (desktop computer or mobile phone).

One could easily tap what they wanted and move on about their business. I can actually forsee Bing doing this before anybody else, since their latest mobile device is ALL about "titles" as they call them.

Great idea, but needs more work -- in the way you've set it up, it'd be vulnerable to "like-jacking" and bots.

That said, there are a number of sites where you can create your very own personal search engine (I did one for a university library so that the search would favor journal articles and so forth.) If you tied the personalized engine in with a blog or website (use my site to search for "blah blah blah blah") you might get some interesting results.

I think the future of search will be something related to voice searches where search engines would be able to recognize every kind of voice smartly. The next step can me mind reader search engines which will show the results according to what is going in our minds at the exact point of search.

We may not need seven different rows of different types of results, however, what I am suggesting here is not so much a new search engine, but rather a new way to search, Google could test this, as it's more of a interface change and not so much a completely seperate search engine, maybe the title could have been better, but whatever, it's a point of interest to note that the top ten results will go away and sooner than people think.

the problem with personalization is that people want to be told what to do, and they often don't want as many options as one would think, look at photoshop compared to some other programs that make graphics, I use a simple program for my products because photoshop has way too many options. Facebook had issues with users not understanding the interface for privacy and had to dumb it down and make it more user friendly and less granular...

kind of exciting and kind of scary, you know... a search engine being able to read my mind, if it could, it would probably only show me porn results in all my searches, accidentally, I would have to make sure not to use my search engine in public...

that's cute, simply cause these apps are actually their own networks, and app networks are the next big thing, actually a company was just sold for more than youtube, a company that owned an app network. With an app network, browsers are OBSOLETE. and with more users using apps, we are going to see a HUGE change, which includes search engines fading. if you see other reports, you'll find that search has been on the decline for years now and more and more people are using social media, such as facebook for their news, etc.

search engines by themselves are dying and that is why Google publicly stated that they are afraid of facebook... we'll see what the future holds...

yes, as they improve the technology, which is all heading toward "people on the go" just like laptops are much more popular than desktops, hand held's will soon outsell laptops,

technology is getting both smaller and more mobile. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerburg said that over 50% or something like that of their users, log in from a "mobile device" I wonder what this means???
