The Problem With Affiliates As I See It

I've been trying to make money online for several years. Initially I used Adsense and other similar avenues to earn an online income, and while this does work the amount you can make is limited unless you have a huge amount of traffic.

As I don't have any of my own products my only other option was to promote other people products as an affiliate. While this led to a couple of hundred dollars a month I found it somewhat lacking because it required a lot of effort to make a relatively small amount of income.

After a couple of years it finally dawned on me, I'm promoting the wrong affiliates. My biggest sellers are WP Themes, Web Hosting Packages and products from my sexual aids site. The problem is that once someone has purchased a theme, a hosting package or a vibrator they're not going to buy another one anytime soon. This means that I have to constantly drive new traffic to my sites in the home that it will convert to more one off sales.

This is when it finally dawned on me, I need to promote a product that people that people buy on constant basis. In the real world I ran a delicatessen for a number of years and there were certain things that people would always buy. These included things like bread, milk, cigarettes, dog food and amongst other things, lottery tickets.

Well, I couldn't see myself selling bread and milk online but I saw great potential for selling lottery tickets. I could see a lot of positives reasons for people wanting to purchase their tickets online and after checking out some of those sites that are already doing it I decided this was the niche for me.

I'm now in the process of signing up people with the knowledge that with every new customer I increase my weekly income as most lottery players buy tickets at least once a week.

The question is are there any other niches where people purchase products on a weekly basis?

Hey Chris, unfortunately I don't have any membership sites that I can tap into but I can see where having one could work well.

I have an email list but don't you have the same problem that you're continually sending out products for them to buy?

Why was that your only other option? There seem to be Warriors here making their livings from all sorts of "other, other options" too, don't there? Not just AdSense and affiliate sales? Things like CPA, memberships, providing services, and several others?

However, if you're interested in affiliate sales and want recurring payments, it might help you to search ClickBank's database for products with recurring payments ... there are plenty of them there.

Hey Alexa, it was the only thing that came to mind at the time. I am a clickbank member but I haven't seen any products that have recurring payments. Reckon I may have to look a little deeper.

You can "search" for them specifically in the Marketplace - have a look at the "advanced search" function there ...

Hey Alexa, that would be right, they sure don't want to make it easy for you to find the right product.

Didn't know you could do that. But great idea for promoting recurring income type products. It makes a lot of sense.

Actually it's better than that. I forgot to mention a very important fact. You can sign affiliates under you and make a percentage of their customer's sales.
