How do I get Forum Discussions going?

I have a new membership site and a Forum.
The Forum is empty though and I am looking for ideas on how to get it going.
It is reserved only for members of the site, but I have a few members. I don't want to open it to the world and get people just advertising their services.
Any ideas suggestions? I don't want the new members to think there is nothing going on

Without knowing what the blog/forum is about this is kinda hard to answer. But you could have starter topics in the forums to get the conversations rolling. Or hire your members to start some conversations. Those are the only two things that really come to mind right now.

  • I would just start your own discussion. Post an open question and ask others for their feedback.
You could also offer a free bonus to the top poster each week, just to get the ball rolling.

I would post some random questions on related to your forum topic and let members to answer. Or you can pay one of your member on your forum to start a conversation threads on forum...

Believe it or not, a lot of folks will often hire pay people to post interesting and engaging threads, just to give it that vibe that things are really busy, even if it's brand spanking new. I've seen others new this with blog comments as well to help kick off the popularity of their blog. So, that is an option to consider. You can usually hire it out incredibly cheap, too.

It's not easy to do, but start open ended posts and make sure they're interesting to the people on there already.

The best way is to hire a few people to make forum posts for you. You can even find people on fiverr willing to do it, but make sure they have good feedback or you might get crap. I have my own gig for forum posts, 20 over a week for $5 on fiverr.

I've seen the ghost writing thing used in forums I've been a member of. They would post controversial topics and informative stuff. I guess you could call it "comment bait" or something.

Start posts on different topics in your forum and see what catches peoples attention. Then take this topic or topics and write articles, create videos and basically promote to get other like minded people or people experiencing the same issues or problems to sign up to your forum.

can we see the goods and decide how to go about it. I think for most part it just takes time and a bit of cash to get the ball rolling but you also can get volunteers to mod for you in exchange for advertising.
