I have just been contacted with a request to place an ad on my site and asking for my ad rates. I have no clue what to propose - any suggestions?

Thanks

What are your traffic stats? Uniques visitors, page views, unique page views, etc. I would charge a flat rate per month and base my rate on how many unique impressions I could give in said month.

You're going to fail. If you're afraid of failure then you do not belong in the Internet Marketing Business. Period.

Thanks BloggingPro - my site is about successful retirement.

It is growing steadily but still only has about 2000 unique visitors, 4 600 visits and 8 600 page views a month. Does this give you any idea about what I should consider charging?

Let them bring up price first until you have an established record and rate for advertisers. Then you can start demanding a rate or you simply won't do business with them.

But, since you don't have an experience with this, just play dumb.

Let them offer you a number, and if that makes sense multiply it by at least 1.5 or 2

You can add in how high your opt-in rate or conversions are to show how targeted your traffic is, of course if it targeted.

    Good luck.

      i agree with jamie

You also have to remember you are not getting alot of visitors
to your website so you don't want to charge a big fee.

If that customer place a ad on your website and they only end up
with 15 clicks 1 lead 0 sales then they won't be back.

This is true and many people are low on money. Basically, an ad that does not generate sales will be pulled right away. Still, here are few factors that influence price.

        1) PR score
        2) Alexa score
        3) Total page views
        4) Total uniques per year
        5) Placement location in body copy

Create what I call a dollar menu. This is a list of your specials and a rate sheet to push your company. Also, change your special offers every year.
