I've made my living that way for a couple of years.

Making money from selling Clickbank products is, broadly, about three things:-

    (i) You have to select products wisely (there are some suggested guidelines here): without getting this part right, it doesn't matter what else you do ;

    (ii) You have to pre-sell effectively to well-targeted traffic;

(iii) You have to build a list and form relationships with the people on it, so that they'll buy on the strength of your recommendation.

These things aren't optional: you really do need to do all three of them, otherwise you're probably chasing 10% of the possible money and ignoring the other 90%.

There's a huge turnover of ClickBank affiliate marketers trying other ways and mostly not being too successful, but I think the above is pretty typical of those who make steady money from it.

Key concept: people generally buy ClickBank products because they trust someone's recommendation. They buy on the strength of your relationship with them, built through your website and your autoresponder emails to your list subscribers.

So, do you use blogging on your personal site or an authority site in a particular niche or a micro niche site?

I have 8 different niche sites, all of which I've started off over the last two and a half years.

I'm trying to build them up gradually into "authority sites" but the definition of that term is of course pretty subjective.

They all have a prominently incentivised opt-in on their landing pages, for list-building.

I'm primarily an article marketer (I'm not suggesting that's the "only way", of course - though however you look at it there's going to be some content-writing involved). They're content-rich sites, anyway.

      Alexa,
what kind of methods of list building can be used when promoting CB products? Newsletter subscription? Rebates for purchasing CB prods?...

Do you ever mix CB product(s) with physical products on the same website? For example: CB eBooks on making furniture and related tools from other affiliates?
      Thanks

Almost anything that you can use for a list opt-in for any sort of internet marketing site, really.

I've always offered a "free report" and promoted it strongly on my landing pages as the reason for people to opt in. I think "newsletter subscription" might not - perhaps - sound like quite a good enough incentive to some people? Because they might take it as a euphemism for "marketing emails", i.e. "see through it". Basically, you have to offer them "something of perceived value" to get their email address.

Ah, now ... actually that's the one thing that's not allowed.

You can give "extra bonuses", but not "rebates"/"discounts" (ClickBank's rules).

But these things (for me, anyway) would come at a later stage, after I've done some pre-selling and got them interested in the product to start with, which I need (or at least want) them on my list to achieve. I don't actually use anything like that, though, myself. I want people to buy these ClickBank products through me because I'm the person they trust, not because I'm giving them something extra. That's like "competing on price", which I'll never do. I do think, in the long run, "trust" is a better way to sell than "price", because once you have "trust", you can then go on to sell them other things, too, without needing to find new customers all the time.

Up until recently I'd have said "no" and explained my reluctance to try that. But I've now tried it and (so far - in one niche only) it seems to be working out well. The physical product I'm offering is something that pays me roughly the same commission as the ClickBank product, and I've managed to introduce the physical one and make some sales with it without it apparently making me sell any fewer of the e-book. So I can tentatively report that it seems to work, with some care. (I do think there are some potential pitfalls with it, though ... and I wouldn't want to be promoting anything as an "either/or", or something that paid me significantly less than the e-book.) Just my perspective.

I use two main methods to promote Clickbank products.

The first is from my blog. I write reviews of the products, and unlike many people, they are often genuine reviews. I buy a copy of the product, use it and review it. A lot of people simply copy and paste the review provided by the seller in the marketing materials, which means you see a lot of websites containing identical reviews.

The second is direct mailing to my list. I try not to push more than one product per month, because if all your messages to your list members are little more than sales pages, they'll ignore them or unsubscribe.

I have never used PPC, AdWords etc. The price on keywords is often so high now that the costs become too high compared with the return on sales.

Yeah I would follow Alexa's advice for making money from Clickbank and for making long term profits with it. Is probably worth specifically searching out her posts on Clickbank and Article Marketing on this forum using the advanced search option as they contain pretty much everything you need to know on the subject.

Also, for complete newbies to Clickbank one of the quickest ways to make money with it is to specifically target the product name as your keyword to rank for and other related keywords such as 'product name + review'.

Then people specifically searching out that product may well come across your website and you might get the last click for the commission. To start with, it will be much easier to quickly rank for a product name keyword that for a more generic niche keyword related to the problem the product aims to solve.

In the long term is better to have your own blog and a build list where you build trust and a relationship with you readers. But that might take a bit of time to build up, so as you start out it might be worth targeting specific product keywords trying to get the last click for a bit of quick money just to give you a taste of earning money with Clickbank to keep you positive and preventing you from quitting!

    Hi jerytohn,

I would give the same advice as myob (post #9 in this thread).
However, I would emphasize the importance of understanding
the process of niche selection and the importance of keywords.

dont be scared. its just like promoting any other product online and once you actually know the base on how to promote them/sell stuff online, you can pretty much sell anything really regardless of if its on CB or not.

I personally dont really like CB because I live in another country(Canada) and it take like 20 something days to get my checks unfrozen at the bank. Thats just me tho.

    Alexa,
Thank you so much for detailed answers!
I’m just starting and I need recommendations in several areas.
In your opinion what would work better for your type of websites: WordPress or static html website?
...if WP than what plug-ins would you recommend?
    Do you use ExactMatchDomains?

    Thank you

Can't help you much with that one, I'm afraid. I've never really used Wordpress at all (I'm a mostly TypePad girl - so my sites are technically made from "blogging software" but you'd never know it, and they don't look "bloggy"). But in principle I really don't think it matters from what software a site's made, anyway. I do see that the possible attractions of Wordpress include that fact that it's in such widespread use that help/advice for it is readily available.

People say that "Google loves blogs" but the reality is that it isn't the fact that they're blogs that Google loves: it's the fact that they're "regularly updated websites". So I advise you to update regularly whatever you use.

Yes, I try to, more or less. Or at least domains with a major keyword at the start of the url. I think it does help though my own guess (without evidence!) is that it's gradually going to help a little less all the time.

After the first 2 checks (which you don't necessarily even have to bank, but can typically arrange with ClickBank to replace later with a bank transfer by returning them, after they've been used to "verify your postal address") you can switch to direct bank deposit, which is fast and efficient ... "just saying".

The only time I've made money with a Clickbank product is through PPC. It's the shortest route, but not the most sustaining.

I first started affiliate marketing with clickbank and it opened a whole other world for me. What has worked out the best for me is to:

      1. Develop a content rich niche blog that is search engine optimized.
      2. Market your blog and include a newsletter signup that offers something for free.
      3. Setup an autoresponder for your newsletter that is again..CONTENT RICH.
Be sure to include proper marketing of related/respective clickbank products.
      4. Pump traffic to your blog.
      5. Setup lead capture pages (look around for some ideas).
      6. PUMP TRAFFIC to everything and leverage the use of social media marketing

Be sure to get yourself a mentor. This is only one and it's how I started out which lead me to what I'm doing now.

  • The best way to promote clickbank product is to buy the product review the product and write honest reviews on the product. Tell people about the good and the bad. Build a list and built a relationship with your list and send them email about different products that you have review and sit back and cash the checks..

Both Jordan and Mreese have good ideas.
You probably have been bombarded with a recent product launch which is basically about review sites.

My personal advice is which ever way you choose always cloak your links.

Read through some of Alexa's stuff about "choosing products wisely". This really is key and I didn't start making money until I started following her advice. Without getting that right you can do all the "pumping traffic" and "keyword optimizing" and "content rich" all you want and you won't me making a dime. Alexa doesn't have to "appear" to be authoritative on this subject because she IS authoritative and she freely shares what she knows. You just have to read it and do it... somehow that gets lost on people. Go figger!
