Default Odd Clickbank Affiliate Link: Can Someone Explain?

Believe it or not, I'm completely new to Clickbank and I've just signed up for some products I'm going to promote.

However, one of them gave me a very strange link...

http:// MyUsername.Product.hop.clickbank .net/?tid=MyPassword

Is that normal? Right there in the link are the details necessary to get into my account.

I know whenever someone clicks on it, the address bar goes to http:// www. Product.com/?hop=MyUsername

But, I just need some peace of mind that this is secure and 'normal'.

Thanks guys!

JK

They can see your clickbank ID which is mad really

They do not see your password so they can not login to your account

The Memoirs Of Edward Rochester - Just imagine if Jane Eyre had been written by Mr Rochester.
My first full length novel now on Kindle and In Print on Createspace. That's what I call a niche!

Looks like you may have confused the create hoplink dialogue boxes with the login box. When creating a hoplink there is a second box for a tracking id. You may have accidentally entered you password there.

No that is not a normal Clickbank hop at all.

it would read

http youraffiliateid.product.hop.clickbank.net/?tid=xxxx <===regular format

your id = id
product = promoted product

the tid portion is if you choose a tracking id

You dont need to use your user name or password. The tid bit is to track which traffic gave you sales.

For example, if you do email promotion you can use
tid=email
or
tid=emailpromotion

For ppc campaigns you can use something like
tid=ppc

or

tid=payperclick

I hope this helps you.

So if 'tid' is a tracking id, why did it give it to me automatically with my password on the end?

Odd.

Also, this particular product points to a squeeze page first. Once the visitor puts in their name and email, they are directed to a sales page.

Is it possible to change the clickbank url to bypass the squeeze page, and send my visitors straight to the sales page? Instead of sending them to Product.com (where the squeeze page is) they go to Product.com/salespage

You have no control over which page people land on unless you talk directly to the person who is selling the product (the affiliate manager). I don't like the sites that go directly to a squeeze page because it can turn people off and waste your time. It's worth asking. They might be willing to change their system if they think it is costing them in the long run. But don't expect miracles.

Re your CB link.

In order for your password to get on the end of your affiliate link, you must have entered it in the tracking id section when you got your affiliate link. Personally, I would change it because it just makes it easy for people to hack into your CB account, having your password and username.

Change the password portion to whatever you want. CB doesn't care what you put there. When you use your ID, just change the tracking portion first. You don't even have to go to CB to do that. Just change it manually.

PS: with CB, your UserName is your affiliate ID. I see someone said your sample affiliate link was wrong. It's just how you've worded it. The rest is fine. So just change your tracking portion.

Actually, as a minor sidenote, there are tools which allow you but you should
not do this without the permission of the vendor.

So, it's something against Clickbank terms or just unethical?

I just think it's kinda unfair to build someone elses list for them as well as promoting their product. I'm not going to ask people to sign up on a list twice before they get to a product...

It's not against ClickBank terms but it is unethical.

The vendor has the right to provide a squeeze page
and you have the right to choose not to be his affiliate.

Yeah, that's fair enough.

I've sent an email to them now.

Thank you all!

Oh. I didn't know that. I know some affiliate managers will allow you to put their sales page on your own site.

With one of affiliate program, I contacted the owner and pointed out that the landing page was not as relevant as one of his other pages would be. Apparently, he had changed it but because of my request, he switched it back. So I know if you talk to them, they will consider it (some of them, anyway).

I wondered how people were able to offer up a squeeze page to a CB product when I was pretty sure that was against their terms. I don't think they bother checking anymore, but if you report the site to CB, they will make site owner change it. I did that once with a landing page that also offered credit card and other payment options besides CB, plus it was a physical product and, at least then, CB only accepted digital stuff. CB told me they were going to check it out because that was not allowed. I never went back to the site so I don't know if it was changed or not.

And JR... as far as squeeze pages. You'll find that most affiliate landing pages do ask visitors to opt-in and often, it is more prominent than the product sales letter. In other cases, they intercept the buyer with an opt-in page before they can go to CB and buy the product. Not sure if that's kosher with CB.
