What are RSS Feeds, how are they used and how do they drive traffic to one's site?

You responses will be most appreciated not only by me but by several others.

Thanks in advance

There are many other uses for RSS feeds, for example some sites use feeds to pull in news from popular sites.

An RSS feed is a "Real Simple Syndication" of the web pages or posts of your site. These are usually in XML format and are readable through readers like "google reader, yahoo reader" etc. The coolest thing about RSS feeds is that people like to subscribe to them. When they do so, and you make a new post or update to your site, they are sent an email notifying them of something new. The email itself usually contains the updated information. So they can read and click right from their email address, or open it up in their reader to read. They can also share everything right from their inbox or the feed itself from the reader. It's a good idea to add an RSS feed to any website. "How To Create An RSS Feed From Scratch For Free".

thanks for your post thegotoguy. That site is great idea but a bit annoying how you have to create a feed every time you post! I found I could do it with my Wordpress site for free as a built in feature!
