Where to begin with list building????

I would love to get your opinions about this subject. In the IM niche I've considered JV Giveaways a superior first step in establishing an initial list. Any opinions?

Just offer a free product or a cheap paid one.

After buying the product or when downloading, have an opt-in box.

    It's that easy.

Give away a free report that is relevant to your niche. In exchange people have to opt in. Alternatively you can do a WSO here in the warrior forum, sell a $7 report and get them onto your list when they purchase. The advantage of doing this is that you get a higher quality list because your list is made up of people who've already bought from you.

I agree that offering something for free in exchange for details is the way to go. But doing it right is what counts.

In a competitive and cynical niche that is full of PLR, rehashed, and outdated information, you need to be able to offer something that is unique and of real value. Take some time to work out what this hungry market needs and give it to them - for free.

Secondly, don't ask for much in return. All you really need is their email address, but their name is good to have as well. The more information you ask of them, the fewer your optins will be.

Promote your giveaway. Just because it is sitting there on your site doesn't mean people will know its there. Write some articles, put them on your site, bookmark them and then leverage them in the many different ways available. Mention the giveaway on your Facebook Page, write a press release about the topic of the giveaway.

Build trust. Give away something else to those on your list. Don't pitch immediately, or you could lose them - and this happens all too frequently when new marketers get excited about having 'a list'. It is just as easy for them to leave your list as join it (if you are using a reputable Autoresponder like Aweber).

As with everything else in this industry, it doesn't all just magically happen. You have to work at it.

      Good luck.

There are many ways to build a list some good and some bad. The best way I have found to build a good solid list in the IM area is to offer a free high quality product such as videos, report, ebooks, ecourses, WP themes, etc.

The bottom line is that you need to offer the potential subscriber a good reason for them to give you their name and email address.

If they are going to subscribe to your list, then you want to start off with giving them something of quality. Then you can follow up with your offers and other items.

There are several ways to get subscribers to your list. One is to put an email optin box on your website or blog telling them that they can get this free item if they put in their name and email address. Another way is to have a dedicated squeeze page where it is a one page website where there are some nice graphics and several paragraphs telling them what they are getting for free if they subscribe.

The squeeze page can be on its own dedicated domain name that you push users to or it can be under a subdirectory on an existing product site domain.

In the IM niche, I have found free ebooks and reports successful along with ecourses. In fact, one of my more successful list has been an ecourse on Adsense.

Not sure what autoresponder service you are using but I user Aweber but there are others such as getresponse, etc.

I always do a double optin on the list so I know I am getting subscribers who are really interested and I have less of a chance of them unsubscribing.

You don't need to do a JV. Just go buy a cheap high quality report or ebook from someone online or an online bookstore where you get Master Resale or Private Label Rights. Make sure you get modification rights. Then you can add to the report or ebook and brand it. Then push people to your optin box and grow your list.

two main points when giving away stuff in return for there email. Firstly you must give away VALUE and then secondly you must build a solid relationship with your list...it cant possibly be done quickly....you must have at least 15 emails that follow up with good content teaching, educating your leads within there niche...I find videos are an excellent way to build trust. The auto responders job is to drip feed the potential clients good information over a period of time. It is so important to have within the emails your website link where the prospects can go and find out who you are and more about you. You are much better to have 100 leads that will buy off rather than 500 that wont

Start list building is key to a successful long-term IM-business. Chose a specific subject within a Niche, write a report or use a PLR and rewrite it, make it unique and specific.
In these days specifically in the IM Niche you have to give your customers something with value. Give the report for free AFTER they have opted in on your site via an Opt-In Box where they are asked to give their email address in exchange of a free valuable report.

Best tip for rapidly gaining subscribers is to post a free WSO with a free report on the topic of your list emails.

If done well you will get anywhere from 50 to 300+ subscribers in one WSO.

Not too bad as it only costs $40 to post one. Then you can bump it once it hits page 3+

I definitely second this. It's funny how many quick responses I got in minutes for free reviews when I posted my first WSO. That shows how much attention free gets on WSOs

Whatever niche your focusing in on break it down. Find out what your target prospect wants the most and give it to them for FREE via a report or an ecourse video series for they will appreciate it. Sell people on the optin. Once they are on your list continue providing them little pieces of free info on your niche. Then hit them with the product or products you are looking to promote .

Does anyone have good examples of people to follow to get a good idea of how to properly maintain and interact with a list? I haven't joined any IM guru's lists so I don't really know what's appropriate, IE how often to send emails, etc. Suggestions would be very cool.

Ah listbuilding. Yeah, I'm still trying to figure out the best plan of attack for myself. There are a ton of marketers out there that can teach you a lot. I'm quite new at this branch of IM myself, so I picked up a WSO from someone who has quite a substantial list, and he has the technique down. JV giveaways seems to be the way to go, but I know there are other ways to do it as well. I just worry my freebie is going to get buried.

I think the best way is to offer a product of about a $47 value or just about that amount. Then people can decide or make and easier decision whether they want to get in or not.
