New Google Site Layout - What Do You Think?

Do you like the new homepage?

Obvious changes are the black band across the top of the page, new 'Google Search' and 'I'm Feeling Lucky' buttons and moving of the links to the very bottom of the page.

What I find more interesting is how URLs in the search results are now sandwiched between the title and description of each listing. Looks like it's designed to force searchers to pay more attention to the URL itself, perhaps in an attempt to put more weight on the URL as a metric in Google's algorithm?

What do you think?

I'm liking it. Very streamlined. The search results will definitely take some getting used to. It's much cleaner but definitely feels a bit more different. Overall I must say that I approve though.
One has to wonder what other changes are on the back end.
For one I'm not seeing the Wonder Wheel anymore.

    Very interesting though.

I like the layout.... it looks much cleaner!

But you know what really sucks????

I was creating a new website today and just when I wanted to check up the LSI keywords... I DID NOT find the Wonder Wheel link in the left sidebar anylonger!

The wonderwheel was really wonderful. Could be that I am just blind or something

      Greetings

Yeah, that sucks, in fact I just started a thread about that very problem. I thought (hoped) it was only me..

I dont like the URLS under the page titles. I cant understand why the swapped the URL and the description. To me that makes no sense. Unless I actually stop, to check, I have no idea of the site Im visiting.

Beforehand it was open and obvious. Now it seems "hidden away".

And is it me or did they play with Places too? I don't remember seeing related places on people's places pages before. Basically people's competition as well as other page searches. If it was there before I don't remember it being so bold.

Offliners who offer this service may want to have a gander at that. It's not a service I offer anymore but I suspect many still do.

I can't say I like the home page as the black background makes it hard for me to read the words. Having poor eyesight makes me strain to see which one I am looking for. It was much easier before.

Wonder Wheel seems to be gone and that doesn't please me. Maybe they moved it someplace else, I hope.

The search results don't seem to have changed for me. Not sure if I am reading the previous posts, but my URL is still at the bottom.

        Was I reading that wrong?

Tim, I can't find the wonder wheel and I tried to change my settings (with instant off) and it still wasn't there. Boo. Hiss.

Black background? Do you mean the menu?

I'm seeing urls just after each title and not on the bottom like your screen shot. Maybe when you next go there you'll see it - or possibly after a cache purge.

Why did they move the green URLs to the second line. Are they just moving **** around for the heck of it.

Google fixed something that wasn't broken.

The change is designed to call attention to other Google services that most people don't use or care about.

G is trying to get people signed up and logged in to Google, instead of just hitting and running.

The fact that we cant easily "find things" should be a good indication to Google that they need a "SLAP"

Ironic isnt it, after all these years?

You know what is really cool on my homepage is the voice to search function. I was like what the hell is this thing? and then I played with it a little. It took a couple of tries but it works really well. Also the black bar is kind of weird, but I'm getting used to it. I've been looking out for the +1 feature but I can't find it. I saw an article on LinkedIn about how it was challenging Facebook, but I don't see it anywhere.

One thing to probably take into consideration is that now Google has the description below the URL, its probably a good idea to start thinking of that as your "call to action" or "hook".

Now that its more prominent, users may be more likely to click, simply because of its wording.

    Just a thought.

Anyone notice a change in there rankings. My sites are all over the place right now from jumping up to number two or three to going back to were they were in the last few hours. Its been interesting to watch at least.

As for the site layout I kinda of like it but im not picky and never gave it much thought before. It just seems more crisp looking now.

Well, it seems that someone stole the Wonder Wheel.

Just checked through all the new More options and more (sorry!) but no Wonder Wheel. There is no mention of its disappearance in the Official Google Blog, no entry under "where is the google wonderwheel?" googled in Google.

I am at a loss. For May 29, 2011, I found an entry in the Google Blog showing the Wonderwheel being just above the Timeline under the All Results heading. Went to check. There was no WonderWheel.

Does anyone have an answer? Please?

Aye I cannot find the wonderwheel either. There is a video about it in the Exploring Google Search stuff but no link. Anyone know if this impacts wonderwheel scrapers?

One thing I do like is when I do a search at google.ca (being Canadian) there is now a place to click stating "Go to Google.com". Previously I was using a firefox plugin to see how the .com search results appeared (as they are different than .ca).

Beware, Dosty, using google.com is not the same as using Goole USA if you are outside the USA; it is Google International. The search results are different. If you want to check search results in Google USA from outside the USA, you need Google Global (a plugin). About a year ago, I wrote a brief blog post about this: Google Global - How You Can See What Others See.

This has implications: for instance, if you use the Traffic Travis free version for SEO Analysis, their results are based on Google International, not Google USA. it's a bummer if you want to market to the USA.
Market Samurai gets that one right.

Still, I want my WonderWheel Back!

In about 2 years I expect Google to issue a "We're sorry" press release...

We're sorry for screwing with your adwords accounts
We're sorry for reducing your adsense earnings
We're sorry for annihilating your Google news sites
We're sorry for Instant, Plus 1 and a whole heap of other stuff you never needed or wanted
Can you please stop using Blekko now.

    Oportunix

Brad here. I do like the upgrade and google seems to be working to continue to improve their product. They are getting more competition from FaceBook and Twitter to name just two.

With that said - what do you think about the changing landscape on the internet. With all these changes do you see marketing as we do it today going away?

I have seen a few posts - Ryan Dyce for one - alluding to these changes. But there seems to be opportunity with each change. I am interested in your views or anyone else too.

    Cheers !

I don't like the black band.

I want my wonder wheel back. If it's still there somebody will figure out where they put it, and if we keep googling wonder wheel we'll eventually find it.
