Building Facebook iFrame Fan Pages?

Hello All,

I'm a complete newbie when it comes to IM but have been reading up on it a lot.

One interesting thing I've come across is the possibility of developing a facebook fan page for small businesses which contains an iFrame of a custom wordpress website.

I can definitely see that there's value here for a lot of businesses - my custom website could advertise offers, etc that people won't see otherwise if they land on the fan page through a google search.

My question is: Is anyone out there making money doing this? Anyone any thoughts on pricing?

Any thoughts are appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

    Hi,

I outsource the building FB pages for small business owners, however the key to this, from my own direct experience, is the type of small business you target. I usually go for trade services, which are not typically targeted and often cant build them themselves.

If I am targeting any other type of business, lets say restaurants, and I don't usually because they are (a) either swamped with offers to do this already or (b) have already done it, but if I am going for one of those I do the following. Put up a sample fan page for them, show it to them and they are more likely to respond to it that way.

      Thanks for the input marchenzo.

That's an interesting idea of putting the sample page up.

May I ask what your reigon your pricing is in? I've seen one person quote between $500 and $1500 as a "low" figure.

I'm trying to identify the potential sell rate of this - I'm predicting maybe a 2% sale rate, not sure if this is too low or too high.

      Thanks!

Currently I am charging $197. I do upsell them though on related services and helping to make their page go viral.

Very interesting - thanks for the input.

Marchenzo: I'm curious, does the business then 'own' the page that you've set up - do you make them an admin and remove yourself as an admin?

Does anyone else have any experience with this?

    Thanks!

      No problem. Glad it helped.

With the type of business I target, I have had a VA stay on as an admin of sorts for a lot of them but at a certain point, I will extricate myself from them. Its reasonably finite.

There was a good WSO doing the rounds of late on this very thing, Simple Spencer and Fuad Tolieb, I got some great tweaks from it myself, have a look for it

I do this for my clients. I charge $135 to set up a custom tab, but it always turns into more because I go through their entire fan page and revamp. Logo banner, the 5 images across the top, consultations etc.

A lot of them I can turn into monthly residual clients ranging from $70 per month to $450 per month depending on what they want. It varies as I also can tie into their website and charge for web maintenance and updates as well as newsletter implementation.

So in answer to your question...yes, people can make money doing this. You just have to understand your customers needs like in any business.

Marchenzo: I noticed those two WSOs but both seem to be closed! Just a bit too late it seems

Keith Boisvert: Thanks for the input, you've both given me a lot to think about.

Look for EZFanPageGenerator here or on Google. Not sure if it is still a WSO. Lets you make fan pages within WordPress. Keep in mind that sometime this fall, Facebook pages will need to be hosted on a secure website (one with an SSL certificate).

Chriscobb: Interesting point. I have facebook set up to run only over https, and it kept asking me to switch out of it when viewing pages with iframe content. I was wondering what the strategy to do this was. I guess as long as you have one domain with a https certificate that will suffice.

          Thanks!

The iframes are pulling in pages located on your (or another) domain. The pages will need to be located on a domain with https. After the cutoff date, you will not be asked to switch out of secure mode. My understanding is that non-secure iframes will not show at all.

Yes one domain with SSL will work as long as you are using sub folders only maindoamin/fbpges etc there are a few great plugins that make the creation and admin of FB pages very easy PM me for recommendations.

This is definitely something that you can outsource on odesk for 20$-40$ and sell at $197 on the lower side.

Most business owners offline have no clue what it costs to build a website, let alone a facebook page.

I wouldn't be surprised if you can sell a custom tab at over $300. The main challenge is getting the customer.

    Hope this helps

I charge anywhere from $195 to $495 for custom fanpages. From reading this thread, I think most of you folks are undercharging. You have to remember a few things. 1) It's not unusual for a business to pay $1000+ for a website, oftentimes more. 2) Facebook is hot, businesses know they need to be there, but are clueless as to how. 3) You're not just selling the fanpage. You're selling your expertise. Kind of like a doctor who gets thousands for doing an appendectomy. A 15-year old could probably do the operation. What you're paying for is expertise!

      Very interesting input, absolutelee.

May I ask how you find your clients? I'm suspecting that many people will be offering this to existing clients, whereas I'm essentially going to be cold emailing restaurants, bars, etc.

I'm new to this sort of thing, but I've worked on creating value propositions before - I'm somewhat confident that I can create a convincing sales pitch, providing I can actually get people to listen to me.

I guess I need to find potential customers who know that they need this, rather than trying to sell to potential customers who don't know that they need it. Time to put my thinking cap on!

Finding clients using your own fan page, social media sites like twitter and youtube and cold calling. Join a local networking group like the Chamber of Commerce and ask for referrals once you start getting clients. With 750 million users on Facebook every business owner knows they need to be part of it.

I just watched a free webinar with Jason Fladlien where he showed how to do an app that puts an I-Frame in a fan page. Unfortunately, between the time I watched the webinar as a downloaded video and tried to do the IFrame, FB had changed stuff and I couldn't make things work. But then I'm a bad techie so maybe others could figure things out from what Jason taught. In any event, it was a great webinar on using Fan pages to make money. I suggest you upsell the option of a video for the page, you can make it yourself or outsource, video will convert better, get more likes and email subscribers. I'm using my own here created via a wp theme from the thesocialnetworkingacademy.com which I believe you can purchase. Been converting at 35%.

Dougger1: That's an interesting webinar - thanks for the link! Do you really think you can charge the $500-$1500 he suggests? He does make a very good point that small businesses see this as the same level of advertising as the giants such as Samsung.

julesw: Thanks for showing me what you put together - very interesting to know the conversion rate. The video option is certainly interesting.

I'm currently considering having a 'case study' company. I've got a good contact in a small but notable local company - might give them a freebie and use them as a major testimonial.

I'm going to be offline for a few days. Thanks for the help everyone!

If anyone has any extra thoughts, I'd love to hear them - but I won't be able to reply for a few days.

    Thanks!

Tabbed fan pages are typically easy sales, and there is a huge market for it. There are some great templates available here on the forums. Your best bet is to to sell the lead generating dynamic of having a fan page along side the potential viral sharing benefits as promising to directly increase sales from the fan page because we all know that typically does not happen.

A fan page with a proper lead capturing system is the kind of thing most businesses need at the top of their funnel, and can LEAD to more sales in the long run. Good luck with your ventures.
