Hi,

If I set up a micro niche site, how do I promote?

Like I set up the site, write 10 articles for the site, then another ten for article directories, so I submit those ten articles to loads of sites or just one original article to ten article sites, how do you do it?

Also what other ways to promote? Anyone list a top 5 must ways to promote for a newbie or something? Squidcoo? (think thats what it is called), I have no idea about how to promote the site and ways to do it, anyone help pls?

Thankyou.

Also how often do you update them? If you have 30 micro sites making little money on each site but total combined is 'acceptable' I am guessing to update all 30 sites even once a week would be a right pain, do you update often? How do you maintain 20-30 sites?

With an article you can quickly turn it into video, audio/podcast (use the audio from your video), pdf and blog post. 5 different types of content from writing one article. In addition you can spin or rewrite the article and submit it to many different article directories. And you can even submit the same article to many article directories as many of them allow non-unique content.

For quick video creation I recommend animoto.com (simple and quick) or screenr.com (to record your screen and include audio as well) or camtasia (techsmith.com) if you want to go advanced.

For audio audacity (audacity.sourceforge.net) or camtasia.

For pdf I recommend just using Open Office.

Social media sites are great. Squidoo, Hubpages, Scribd (someone else recommend some more?)..

Other than that.. Forum signatures, free WSOs, build mailing list and do adswaps. You can do a lot, even on no budget.

As far as I was aware this doesn't matter as long you make sure your article is indexed on your website before you start submitting the article elsewhere. Then only the article directories will be penalized.

And even if it does matter, you could post your original article on your website, rewrite it, and post the rewritten article to article directories / social media etc..

So it would be best to write 10 unique articles and submit them to just 10 of the best article sites? Quality over quantity?

Or do you write one article and spin it 10 times using something like The Bestspinner?

It depends what you're writing for, Bill.

And what sort of article marketing you're trying to do. The main "types" are explained here.

Quality over quantity is always a good idea, though.

Don't write original articles for article directories. You can (and should) give them articles already published and indexed on your own site, whichever model of "article marketing" you're using.

There'd be no point in writing 10 articles for your site and another 10 for article directories. If you're writing 20 articles anyway, publish all 20 of them on your own site first and have them indexed there, and then let article directories publish them subsequently ... for all the reasons explained by all those experts in the thread linked to in the paragraph above.

But, before using article directories (or any other article submission sites which aren't article directories), be really clear about what you're doing and why you're doing it. Hopefully this and related posts will help you to decide. Don't just "submit articles to different places" without a clear purpose and article that fit the purpose, expecting to get traffic or SEO benefits from doing so.

"Spinning" won't help you at all. Backlinks are not worth any more because the content to which they're attached is spun rather than simply syndicated. And spinning articles to submit to article directories won't produce traffic that you can't get just as easily to your own site (which is where you want it) without spinning. This post may help you, about spinning.

Not to mention this fine thread (parts of which are also rather entertaining). Just some "light reading" for you.

      This is wrong.

Quality has many other benefits, but link-juice is not one of them!

The link-juice value of a backlink to your site from any given page of another site is not somehow, magically, improved in value because the content to which it's attached is unique rather than syndicated.

And in any case, what you're describing isn't "duplicate content". Duplicate content and syndicated content (which is what you're referring to) are two different things.

That might be a good idea if you're promoting something targeted specifically at site-owners who are looking for a traffic increase to their sites. Because that's who those people are and why they're there. It's hardly going to be useful to anyone else, though?

Remember that traffic is people. They're "traffic" because they're looking for something.

You need to attract the people who are looking for what you're offering.

    Hey Bill,

Great question man, this is one I get asked all the time. There are many free ways to promote your articles, however, you can also send paid traffic to an article, for example, you could use Google Adwords to drive traffic to the article...

The MOST important thing however are the words on the or the "Copy". That will ultimately determine whether someone has enough interest or not to go on and check out your website. It prepares them mentally for the close, and offers you credibility for your business/venture.

    Nice name, Bill Hicks.

Anyways, I recommend becoming a regular on a few forums in your niche. You can easily build trust and drive super targeted traffic, usually via links in your signature.

Blog commenting is also effective, I would do a bit of research before trying it so you know the correct methods and strategies.

Overall, just sit down and really think about your chosen audience. Where do they hang out? What would they type into Google to get there? Do some critical thinking and then draw up a plan and follow it.

Oh, and don't spend money on traffic if your site doesn't have any yet. Exhaust all of the free methods first and get a steady flow before you start looking at ad campaigns and paid services.
