Screen Recording question?

I used to own Camtasia (3 computers ago) and found it a great tool for tutorials.

I am at the point where I need to once again purchase software for screen recording and was wondering if Camtasia is still one of the best out there or if there is a decent alternative (not talking price here) to it?

What do you use and like?

          Sorry, I meant to say it blows Camtasia out of the water. here is the run down, I made like 30+ info products I just show how to do things step by step so the last few are screenflow, the plus over camtasia are:

          1. much easy to cut/edit show you , mix etc
          2. much faster! It converts the final product so much faster then camtasia!
          3. much easier to understand everything
          4. the audio rocks!

          I love the product also I can record calls the audio is much better when recording calls with interviews but more importantly it doesn't choke the computer like camtasia you almost don't see it running OR FEEL IT!

          PS: I'M NOT A REP FOR SCREENFLOW, just love the product I have no interest in selling it so just my opinion it's made things way more easy for me!

    I use camtasia. You can look into Frapps as well, but its mainly designed for recording video games.

    I use camtasia all the time and it is a great piece of software definitely worth the price.

    But if you are looking for a free alternative I think there is something that is available similar to camtasia called screenstudio or camstudio. Pardon me but I don't remember the exact name, just google it

    I love Camtasia 7, but you could also try out something like CamStudio which is free and open-source.

      I am not as concerned with price as I am with functionality. I guess what I am looking to find out is if Camtasia still has the most functionality/versatility out there at the moment.

      Willing to pay for quality, just don't want to take the cheap road only to find out it only does half of what I want it to.

      Not sure if that makes sense or not?

    Yeah, I really have to say Camtasia as well. As far as functionality for the price, you won't do much better. I use Camtasia for recording and Snagit for screenshots. I can put together some impressive tutorials and stuff very easily with this software. Totally worth the price.

    I've used both Camtasia and Captivate and I think that Camtasia just makes things easier. The zoom and pan features are super cool. Captivate breaks files into smaller chunks for faster loading and some of Camtasia's tricks add on a little size. But overall for ease of use and great screen capture I think Camtasia wins hands down.

      I like Camtasia because it is pretty easy to get it set up to work correctly. I have not tried 7.1 yet, I am still on 7.0 but it is very smooth for me.

    Camstudio works just fine like Camstasia although of course the 2nd one has more and better features. I use jing in taking simple screenshots (not recording).

    Camtasia was my go to app, for about two years, before that I used Hypercam or Camstudio for newbie videos. I still recommend it, it gets the job. Although, I use Camtasia to record and Sony Vegas to edit. I find it gives more flexibility and the ability to be creative on a studio level rather than through Camtasia.
