Default Adding Audio to Video

Can anyone recommend a good tool to "narrate" video that I've taken? I know that camstasia does audio and video together, but I'm asking for a solution to adding audio after video has already been made.

I would prefer a free solution if possible, if not something as cheap as possible.

Thank you

I heard Audacity is a free tool that allows you to edit audio...

Haven't tried it...just downloaded it a few minutes ago...

And I don't know how it would work with Camtasia or your videos...

But it's worth a shot...

www.audacity.com is the domain, I think...

Hope this helps...

Actually Audacity is very good as a sound editor, for sound files, but I was not able to get it to edit avi/mpg files.

I'm looking for something where I can produce movies basically

I'm on linux and have experimented with a few things but was hoping for a shortcut from someone that has experience doing this.

Thank you for the attempt though.

You can use Camtasia to add audio after the video has
been taken. Just make the mp3 recording with the help of Audacity,
then add it to your Camtasia presentation (add an audio track).

Yes, but that is a $300 solution. Anyone know of a free or cheap solution?

Technically I can set it up in vmware, use it for 30 days and roll it back, but I was wanting to get a permanent, and cheap solution to recommend to a friend, who doesn't have 2 nickels to rub together (and I want it legally, lol).

Thank you for the effort in the research though.

Anyone else?

Hey James,

I've used Wink for this in the past. It's free, and I think there is a Linux version...

Wink - [Homepage]

Also, here's a list of other free video editors you might want to check out (scroll down for the Linux versions)...

Hope this helps.

Yes, wink is great. I didn't think it did audio though. I guess I'll just have to install/test 1 by one - was hoping to avoid that waste of a day

Thank you for your suggestion

If you're on a Mac you have GarageBand. If you're on a Window's PC, you have the Window's sound recorder applet. Both free, and probably already on your computer.

Have you thought about using Windows Movie Maker?

I don't know if it'll do what you want (I only use Camtasia), but as far as I know it's a free solution.

Sorry, I think my post isn't clear.

I have a movie without sound.

I know how to record sound.

I want to mix a video stream and an audio stream.

An example would be a silent screen capture that shows me clicking screens, which I then narrate after the movie has been made.

And by the way, the windows sound recorder does 60 seconds at a time, and it is a horrible recommendation - you should be ashamed! Or is there something else that I'm missing from your suggestion.

Audacity: Free Audio Editor and Recorder is by far the perfect solution for making audio or editing audio (for me anyway). I'm looking for something that lets me add sound into a silent movie (a free solution is ideal, Camstasia does what I need, but it's $300)

Also,

Sony Vegas is what I use for audio and video. Download the free trial. It's a complete AV editor and quickly becoming the industry standard.

Yes, I tried it and after a long load time it crashed. I tried again and thought ... hrm, this is a piece of doo doo.... So I'm looking for another, stable, free solution (if one exists)

I have used and like Camtasia, but I am looking for a similar solution that is free or more affordable (again, I know how to "crack" their trial use, but that's not the point, I want free and legal)

Hi James
Here are some high end free Linux Open Source NLE Video Editing programs that will get the job done for you. Multi Track Video and Audio.

ZS4 Video Editing System

Jahshaka

They both have a somewhat steep learning curve but if your on a Linux Box it shouldn't pose a problem for you.

Hope this helps.
Happy New Year

I use Camstudio and Movie Maker for all my vids and I think they are both easy and you can easily import audio that you pre-record.

Just so you know, you can get Camtasia 3 for free at:

http://download.techsmith.com/camtas.../camtasiaf.exe

The new version is 5, but 3 is all most people need.

Blessings,
Terry

Thank you, that is what I was looking for... at least on the windows side. Still experimenting with the linux side though (my setup is such that sometimes I use windows and sometimes linux depending on the application. I was using vmware for most things windows side, but I can't share the sound device from the linux OS to the guest OS on the virtual machine... thank you very much everyone, these are great ideas.

Okay... try Multiquence (US$39)

You can load your video in one track, and your audio in another.

The tools others recommended are good, but I have Ubuntu 8.04 and could not get them installed. The above works though ... phew what a way to spend New Years eve...

Index of /tutorials

here is the final product, please review them and let me know what you think.

Be honest and let me know if this is good or bad quality, give me specifics about what I can change (if you feel so inclined).

They are in ogg format, and I don't know if everyone can see them by default (I can see on firefox and internet explorer by default, but my setup might be different)

Anyway, thank you everyone for the pointers I look forward to your feedback
