I need help with my t shirt website (Long Post)

I have a t shirt website that I started about 4 years ago. When I started it I was selling mostly to members of an online forum but then things kind of took off. The problem was that the guy that helped me with my design work and printing would only print in large quantities so when a style didn't sell I lost money.

After a while the designs (all 3 of them) got stale and the shirts stopped selling. I didn't even look at the site until a few months ago when I noticed the site was getting tons more traffic so I decided to relaunch the site. I found a new partner and a new artist. I completely updated the look of the old site and we launched with 27 new designs.

The problem is that our shirts aren't selling. We sold 5 shirt grand opening weekend but that was with a giveaway. Since then nothing. So how do I determine what people want now and why they aren't buying? I have tried surveys on our site as well as our Facebook page and Twitter but I don't seem to be getting allot of responses.

I just need to know what I can do to connect with the traffic that's coming to the site and monetize it.

Thanks and sorry for the long post

    A few quick thoughts-

    • Remove the 'Checkout with Paypal' image centered under your navigation menu. Doesn't look right.
    • Use graphic buttons instead of red text in left sidebar for links.
    • On T-Shirt pages move photos and 'Add to Cart' buttons to top, followed by the text.
    • Use a different add to cart button- orange generally converts the best. At the least try a thinner text on the button.
There's a few suggestions to update your site. If you're already getting the traffic but it's not converting that's what you need to focus on. Also you could test a different price point- say $19.99 for example (if you're not losing money that way).

If you run another promotion ask your customers to take a picture of them wearing your T-Shirt and send it in. You can then use those on site to add credibility.

    Hope this helps! Good luck!

      1. The Website needs an overhaul. This doesn't have to be expensive, but you could run the site on WordPress and get a great looking dark and sinister high quality theme.

      2. I don't buy themed shirts like this, so I'm not a consumer. But I have seen where these shirts can be huge hits.

Make a fanpage " I Hate Zombies" some thing along those lines, don't push your product. Give people fun zombie posts , clips from youtube etc. Then hit them with the "Check out this anti-zombie gear".

A fanpage themed on "I hate zombies" has a much better chance to go big than a anti-zombie gear page.

      Good Luck.

Most critical mistake: I got there and it doesn't seem like a t-shirt website, probably a game related website????

You NEED to get it looking like a t-shirt website. Heres an example: www dot tshirtstoreonline.com/eu

My thoughts exactly. It comes on a bit too strongly IMHO.

Hey folks thanks for all the suggestions and please keep um coming. I thought about the fact that it doesn't look much like a tshirt website but I also wanted to have some keyword rich content on each page foe SEO purposes. What if I was to move the content that's on each page into the articles section on the right and bring the shirts up to the top with maybe a small paragraph up top just before the shirts?
That way they can see the shirts above the fold when they first hit the page.
        Keep the suggestions coming, thanks.

Why not create a fan page on Facebook and promote it. A lot of people are on Facebook now and it will be easy for you to market them. You just have to post the link of your fanpage so that it will be seen by your friends and ask them to repost it on their profile.
