Peeps couldn't you make a lot more money selling your IM services to local businesses? I know I do. I don't get the Fiverr thing. I've been doing IM for 11 years and I find it take just as much energy to sell something for $30 as it does $3000. No wonder people have a hard time making money with it.

Nothing to get really. The traffic is already there. Just do gigs that take you 5 to 10 minutes to do, and make those who buy your gig customers OFF of fiverr... and I'm here to tell you fiverr can become an easy few hundred dollars per day habit.

I make a nice bit off of Fiverr... I sell a few of my cheaper reports on there that I normally sell elsewhere for the same price. I offer article writing.... one gig buys 200 words. I have gotten a few long term clients from that.

While, I appreciate these new fiverr type start-ups, but the problem is that they are getting very less traffic. There are many websites like fiver which are offering customisable payment like $10, $20 but the problem is there are not enough buyers for purchase

Fiverr's still in Beta, so you can expect more changes. It's just a matter of when.

Some obvious things they could be doing that they haven't yet:

-Put ads on the site. Many ads would pay better than the $1 gig commission.
-Develop the gifts/crafts section to become a serious threat to Etsy (where you have to pay to list your stuff).
-Partner with major brands for promotional opportunities. Fiverr is a low-cost way to test new products.

Does anyone know if Fiverr is still going to be taking out a 20% cut for the gig extras too? Cause that's a big fee if you're talking about a $20 upsell.

hm...I'm not sure what I think about that if that is, indeed, the case...

On one hand, they are a business and want to maximize their profits.

On the other hand, if a buyer is interested in a "gig extra", I think the assumption would be that the seller has ALREADY done an effective job of selling on the main gig (making themselves, and the site, money). Perhaps, LESS of a fee should be garnered for gig extras...not the SAME fee?

I don't know....

If the seller is to be expected to essentially do all the work in the 'selling' process of the main gig, I'm not sure the site should take $4 off of, say, a $20 upsell. But...hm...I don't know...maybe that's reasonable?

I don't think 20% is at all reasonable for higher priced gigs.

ODesk charge 10% for everything, and provide a truly excellent infrastructure for both buyers and sellers. I know it doesn't directly compete with Fiverr, but there's enough overlap for the comparison to be fair.

I'm not overly familiar with oDesk. I've heard of it, but have never actually used it.

They charge 1/2 (10%, as compared to 20%) of what Fiverr does?

Doesn't that actually SUPPORT the argument that the fee should be less than 20%?

I hope to see it, as well. May be worthless to some, but an intelligent marketer 'should' be able to sync this up nicely with their current gigs...in order instill alot more value. I have alot of ideas already.

  I've noticed recently that a qualifying seller can offer GigExtras inside a gig as well. Meaning, after you've already bought the gig, they can upsell you on the conversation page.
  
  I have yet to see an upsell I thought was actually worth the extra bucks, though. Great providers aren't always great marketers.
