Amazon Affiliates Who Got Dropped, You CAN Use Other Countries Still

I have a question. If you got dropped from Amazon.com because you live in one of the states that they dropped all affiliates from, does that stop you from promoting Amazon.ca, Amazon.co.uk and the other countries?

I have a support ticket into Amazon.com right now about this, but am interested to hear what everyone thinks. I would think that if you live in the USA and want to promote Amazon.ca or Amazon.co.uk you could still. But need to verify this.

I found this in Amazon.com's operating agreement:

In addition, if at any time following your enrollment in the Program you become a resident of California, Colorado, Illinois, North Carolina, Rhode Island, or Connecticut, you will become ineligible to participate in the Program, and this Operating Agreement will automatically terminate, on the date you establish residency in that state.
But cannot find it in the other countries operating agreements.

Anybody have any real life experience with this?

Of course, when Amazon responds to you it will be the answer to follow, but....

It should not matter in what country you are promoting Amazon products If you live in one of the states that taxes online sales, as an Amazon affiliate, you would represent a physical presence in the state. Amazon would then have to charge sales tax on all purchases made by people in those states.

      I think you are right.

Very sad that Amazon did what they did to their affiliates. Just ridiculous actually.

I think the blame lies with Government. They are never happy with the amount of taxes they receive. The more they tax the more they spend redistributing your wealth and then they find themselves in a big financial crises so they end up taxing the people more so then they spend more and end up repeating this cycle over and over again.

I myself am an amazon affiliate that lives in California not a big one but now I will just find other ways of monitizeing my sites.

Here's how to fix the problem NEVER NEVER vote for a progressive or Liberal they will tax and spend you to death. They believe your wealth needs to be spread around well I myself refuse to except that so I vote every chance I get.

You're exactly right Craig! The federal income tax is not even legal to tax Americans that get the majority of their $$ in the US.

It's funny... I don't remember signing any partnership agreements with the government? They never invested any money or work in my business....

It's about time that people stand up to the tyrants! We're long overdue for a revolution!

You need to go back and actually get the facts.

Amazon could easily collect the tax. But they do not want to...you have any ideas why?

I think even a Republican could figure this one out.

Instead Amazon dumps 10,000 affiliates. Shameful.

If you haven't figured it out yet, someone has to pay for military action, police and emergency services, infrastructure repairs and enhancement and millions of other things. The money has to come from somewhere.

And by the way, we had a surplus when Clinton got out of office but after Lil Georgie and his Band of Bandits were done we were in HUGE debt. This did not just occur with Obama. Obama was handed one of the worse situations in the history of our country.

The anger against Gov. Brown and California is misplaced....the anger should be with Amazon.

By the way...I was a Republican for 35 years...and then one day I grew up and found some common sense.

I suspect that if the politics continue, the threads will start disappearing.

The important thing to gather from this thread is that we can still use Amazon in other countries.

Unfortunately for me, this wasn't something I concentrated on, and I have just a few links going to Amazon.co.uk. So it really won't affect me now - although I might consider building some Amazon affiliate sites for Canada, UK, or Europe...

Ok got word back from Amazon.com directly. If you're in any banned state you CAN still use any other country for amazon. This is what they said:

Thank you for contacting Amazon Associates Program. I understand you want to know whether or not California residents can utilize our international Affiliate programs (Amazon.co.uk in the UK, Amazon.de in Germany, Amazon.fr in France, Amazon.it in Italy, Amazon.ca in Canada, Amazon.co.jp in Japan, and Amazon.cn in China).

The only platform that is affecting California residents from participating within the Affiliate's program is Amazon.com in the US because the tax law that was enacted was set forth by the state government of California, therefore this tax law only affects the Amazon.com platform.
So, if you're in any of those states the party is NOT over. You can still do Amazon, just not in the USA. The programs in other countries don't care what state you live in.

That's good news, still means changing up some links but the business model is not dead. There's more to the internet then just the USA.

Be warned that if your business model is based on promoting very high priced items, Amazon.co.uk has a earnings cap of £7 per item.
