Better to host in the country for traffic?

Hi,

I like to attract traffic from a certain country in South-East Asia.

Is it better to get hosting from that local country? Or will any hosting country like USA will be OK to do?

I had some hosting with US companies so thought of saving some money.

Hi learningbase - I don't think it matters where your hosting is in the world. I don't have any Asian websites, but happily run .co.uk and .com domains on the same US hosting. The .co.uk domains don't seem to suffer!

Do you have the appropriate TLD extension for the country you're targeting? I think that may make more of a difference.

    Cheers for now.

It does not matter if you host in the country for traffic or outside the traffic.

It really doesn't matter, you may even end up getting faster speed on US servers then somewhere else. So better use the best host which has worked for you OR has a good history.

    Just my thoughts.

    Cheers

People make good money selling to the rich. But the rich got rich selling to the masses.

I don't think it matters, where you host your sites. All of my sites are hosted by a danish hosting company, but most of them are targeting visitors from english speaking countries.

It matters more if you have a domain for the country you are targeting and good content in the language spoken in the country.

The location of one's host is a factor that Google takes into consideration when attempting to determine country-specific relevance and thus one's rankings. But it is only one - one's domain name / ccTLD and the IP geolocation source of one's incoming links are two other factors (the latter isn't officially confirmed, I don't think, but it makes complete sense and experience tells me it counts ... and it's essentially just a part of what you're talking about: looking at a host's location).

So you don't necessarily need to be hosted in the country in which you wish to rank highly, but it can only help make things easier (how much, no-one can really say) ... and if you're not at all bothered about ranking highly elsewhere, then it's something I'd seriously consider.

This is all assuming you actually intended for this question to be interpreted and responded to in an SEO context, anyway.

    Agree with everyone.

    Few more points or questions

    1) If you get huge traffic from USA and if your website is hosted at Asia, It might be slow in loading, I guess. I am not sure.

    Why google.co.in, google.co.uk, google.com ?
    Is facebook always .com everywhere?
