Product based websites. Wordpress or DW site??

Hey friends,

Sorry to post many times regarding my confusions.

Well.. Yes, my affiliate site is on a health product and on the way to create my site using Dreamweaver. But people keep on telling me use Word Press. I've heard it over million times. But I think word press is just a blog. I need to own a site. Isn't it? And I'm using DW.

Please correct me/ guide me a little.

Many thanks.
Girish

    Hello Girish,

You can do anything with Wordpress. I would pick Wordpress over Dreamweaver anytime.

With Wordpress you can create a blog, a site or a blog and a site. You can easily add content. It's really a great piece of software.

I've tried both DW and WordPress and most definitely prefer WordPress for it's ease of use and customization (not too mention it's naturally high SEO).
There's really not much you can't do with it and though yes it is more a less a blog by nature that in no way means that you can't craft it into the type of site your looking for.
My best suggestion would be to take it for a test drive and put it through its paces.
You'll want to do so with the full version (WordPress.org) as opposed to the free hosted version at WordPress.com since the hosted version won't allow you explore all of the available features or plugins.

You are comparing apples and oranges...

DW is a web (html) editor tool. A desktop tool to create & edit & design your web pages that will make up your site. When done, you need to upload the 'result' to your host.

WP is an online CMS (content management system) for publishing your content. Despite what the ignorant people say... it is NOT a web design tool. It is a CMS.

You can use both - as many other people do it. E.g. design/edit your own WordPress theme is DW (code mode) to have a unique look + use the publishing features of WP to easily put your content on the web.

This is not an "either or" issue.

    ease of use and customization
That's the biggest lie about WP and, unfortunately, it is "sold" to all the newbies!

WP is easy to install and use. Period. Everything related to "easy" stops here.

Customization is not easy... unless you know XHTML and CSS.

I'm going to have to differ with you there. Wordpress is easy to change if you do it right. Here's a quick guide:

1, Install a theme that you like.
2, Navigate to the URL and copy the page source.
3, Paste this into a new dreamweaver html page.
4, It'll find the CSS sheets to do with the theme.

Then you've basically got the site in HTML format on your local computer. You can edit the CSS as you like, include different background, images change sizes, etc. Then cut and paste the new code into the theme editor in the wordpress backend.

If you're counting votes - mine is for WP. I use DW to edit html when necessary - even for WP, but the core of the site - WP for sure.

I'm a fan of WordPress myself. It's versatile and easy to use. What's better? You can get as complicated as you like with WordPress.

If you're new, keep it simple by getting a good theme (there are plenty to choose from).

As you gain experience, you can pick up skills to customize (CSS/PHP) your WordPress site even more.

    Hope that helps!

I've used both in the past, and I think it really depends on what you want to achieve with your site.

Personally, I've made the switch to WP and have never looked back on DW. I find WP speeds up the process of building a website and lets me focus on crafting content - just my .02, you understand.

I have many health websites on DW and regret that decision. I only use DW for very custom domains that WP can't accommodate.

there are sooo many themes and plugins with WP that this would be the right path for you.

I do as well know PHP so if I need to actually edit the theme, it's not a big deal for me.
