For new people looking to get some traffic quickly and have them write unique content on your site, and get it to go viral-here's what I did that worked.

Get a blog.

Turn your posts into the form of a question. Those questions will become what they call long-tail keywords. People ask Google questions all the time. Take out a 20.00 Facebook ad.

Here's what I did, see if you can use any of this- new people.

1.The visitors going to my site see posts asking for help with various
niche questions. Many of the visitors stop and give helpful advice in the form of comments.

2.Those visitors who leave comments often return soon to see what others
had to say, or to see if anyone responded to them. Many at this point decide to register so they too can post something.

3.Those visitors that do post, add relevant, valuable, and unique content to
my website that increases traffic in every way. These people will also share the post they made with their friends on Facebook and others. Driving traffic to the site even as I sleep.

4.Everyone visiting is exposed to my ads, both on the site, or even
embedded in posts. This presents a great opportunity to make money, good
money! I just focus on SEO and traffic from this point on.

Try my little technique.

Hopes this trick helps some people. I'll say that Google loves me right now, I get around 200 Google referrals every day pretty consistently and I've only had this website for 2 1/2 months.

That's nice but somehow Google seems to have its way of skipping over from one great site to another and forgetting the old one. You can save it by updating it yourself frequently and not just rely on visitor's comments. Sometimes old open discussions with hundreds of comments and no closing date turns off Google. watch out for that.

One thing I've noticed is that often older threads become targets for link spammers. If you start getting a bunch of "Nice post" and "Thanks for the share" type posts, it's probably time to close the thread.

Especially if the posters have funny names like "Penis Enlargement" or "Canadian Pharmacy"...

Ah, good info. Thank you! does anyone know.. are spam links in Wordpress blogs no-follow by default or is there something special you have to do?

I'm getting fairly decent traffic, and I am starting to wonder about links people either post or when they make their name hyper-linked in a wordpress blog...I want to make sure Im not giving them a backlink, or looking like I recommend that link in Googles eyes..

Sorry i missed your question earlier. Yes, they have to register to post, but for now they do not have to register to comment. actually TBH not so surprised. humans need engagement and asking a question does that very effectively.

even in the offline world when you're having a convo with someone (or speaking at a seminar) and you need to get their attention back subtly but effectively, ask them a question and you'll have them engaged and concentrating on what you're talking about again pretty quickly.

i only use questions in my FB ads generally, rather than making statements. i want people to talk to themselves in their minds and answer the questions i'm asking which makes them want to click!

        nice work buddy!

asking questions is a great way to engage with whoever sees the ad/blog, as well as the SEO benefits.

the idea, i guess, is to make them answer the question in their mind which will [should] increase the chance of them clicking on the ad or reading the blogpost and leaving a comment to answer the question too.

That's very clever and something that can often be overlooked. If your content is interesting enough to be talked about, free content will be created in the content! So how long have you been doing this? And what are the results looking like in terms of hard numbers?

From a Search Engine point of view, I think it makes little to no difference if you are showing ads. However a user point of view it will as an empty site with ads plastered all over it will turn off the customer.

BUT, what I do- is let people register and post their own articles and questions, thus they do alot of the work for you, so your site is growing while your off doing other things. If a guest writes something of their own, they are 1,000 times more likely to share it on their own FB wall and stuff. I think that part is the key ingredient.

I've been doing something kind of similar as a test.

I set up a Q&A blog linking to my main blog via the navigation - the topic of the Q & A is my niche.

So for example - say my niche is Apples. I have a navigation item called 'ask about apples' which links through to my Q & A site.

I emailed my list and said - hey check out my new feature on my blog - you can ask any questions about Apples! I said - first person to answer 25 questions legitimately gets X - to encourage participation.

On the first night i had around 70 people post a question. Most of which were solved/answered by others who signed up.

The result so far? A surge in traffic from google to the Q/A site - linking back to my main blog.

A surge in sign ups (including email addresses) on the Q & A site

Most importantly - a pile of questions and answers i can use on my main blog - ready made content exactly on topic and of course it's all rich, rich, rich for SEO.

Cost = $35 for the Q & A wordpress theme and an hour of work to set up plus the cost to send out the email to my list.

Really nice feature i will include in all my blogs from now -

Next tep is to find out how i can integrate the questions and answers back into relevant posts on my main blog and how to tie up the Q & A part with social functions to complete the circle.

Thanks for that. I'll take a look.

Even for people who already have blogs, there's no reason why you can't post the occasional "Here's a question, does anyone know the answer" article. I'll have to start using that more.

Way to think outside the box, I've recently noticed the same thing with "comment inspiring" question posts. If you can think of a question within your niche that needs answering, and don't want to do the research yourself you can easily get people engaged which is awesome for creating ever refreshing content AND providing value to your readers over time.

I wonder though, how much money is this site currently producing? Doesn't seem like it would be a real money maker although it is definitely a fun site to browse around!

it makes a decent amount for being so new( not a full time income..not even close), but I'm focusing more on traffic first, I know for sure, if I get mega traffic, I can monetize it so I went off and got traffic first. I have also discovered that putting up ads when a site is new, hinders Google traffic. Google doesn't like a new site to have alot of ads, it wants to protect the people it's sending there from sites that are ad heavy. I credit me going very very minimal with advertising at first with Google smiling on me soo much. I see alot of people with great websites, with good SEO, and ads all set up to make money...but there's no traffic. Without traffic, I felt like I was wasting my time. So my experiment was to go get that sought after traffic... then figure the rest out later. So far it's working. I'm really a newbie and most likely doing tons wrong....but Google sends me alot of visits every day so for now I'm happy. :-)

    Really nice idea.

How much do you spend on advertising? You mentioned $20 at the beginning, but I assume this is an on-going campaign you have to run.

Yes, I'm really sold on Facebook advertising, I throw a 20 at it on payday. I never really even miss it and I get a couple fresh faces and a traffic boost right away by doing that. If I can get just one person..usually women, to register and post something good, then most times they seem to bring a few friends over with them by posting on their own FB page. It creates its own little ripple effect. There have been a few times where a 20 has got me 5 new members, and like 150 pageviews in one evening.
Surprisingly enough, Google sends me the vast majority of my traffic. I sometimes sit up in bed on my laptop and every commercial break I hit refresh and see what new search terms have brought people to my site. Most of them are relationship based so I feel sad when I see, is my girlfriend cheating on me? appear at midnight..I am working tonight on monetizing it a little better since I have the traffic.

      Hi marston007,

I'm really a newbie and most likely doing tons wrong
I have no way of knowing if you are doing this or not, just going on intuition - be careful if you're ripping those images from other websites and using them on your own website without permission. If you are, my advice is - don't do it.

Hey marston, great idea. So basically you target a group of people on facebook, get them to hop on your site and once you get traffic you put amazon stuff that might interest this group of people. For example, Male and female , 20-35 yrs old in USA with interests in electronics; you put ipad and laptop ads.

      correct me if im wrong

Yes, I have tried to add some of those as well. I'll be testing to see if they pull the same amount of traffic as my asking questions posts. It's 4:01pm now and Google has sent me 204 referrals today so far.

      Wow thats a great insight.

You've executed the question & answer method well by coming up with some very emotive questions. I almost wanted to reply myself!

I think this is more about good content but also about creating a community. It's like a forum without the hassles and stresses that come with running a forum.

The theme is a free WP theme, and the plugins i use to track are free, as well of course is Google Analytics. :-)

I don't care about Authority Sites right now, this was an experiment to see if I could get traffic, and I did!!!!

If a person is out to build an Authority Site and knows what they are doing...they wouldn't even be interested in my tricks.

Handy, this approach could fit very well with an authority site. No one says that the question/answer format has to be the whole site.

Right now, I'm looking at adding a section to a few sites to try this along with the more traditional articles/reviews/etc.

Even authorities need to keep learning.

    Great idea! Thanks for sharing

    Thanks, brilliant marketing.

People tend to conscious of what others think about themselves as this apply precisely to your post where people like to know what others feel about their comments and return to see the responses.

Ya and people like to share with others about their thoughts too.

    Excellent.

      Pretty much yes to ALL.

I am amazed at how much traffic my new little blog gets. I have been in IM for over 3 years, and most of my problems were due to lack of traffic. I think most newbies can relate on that one.

I decided that I need traffic first!!! then everything else comes later!

This is a great idea Mike. Google loves all that site interaction. The only issue is, what if you're positioning is that of an authority site; if you ask questions to your readers, you will less be seen as an authority. Or do you position your questions in a different way?
