I'm a total newbie at setting up websites/blogs, etc. I did purchase a WSO that helped tremendouly. However, now I'm stuck. I have hosting through GoDaddy. I installed the wordpress script. I go into the admin panel for the wordpress and it asks for my user name/password (the one for wordpress). I input the info that I got when I registered for wordpress and it says it's invalid. So, I hit the "forgot password" link and put in the email address that I used when I set up wordpress it tells me that it's not a valid email address. So, basially I'm STUCK. I put the same info into the login screen on wordpress and I get right in. Can anyone help? I need to be able to go in and make posts, etc. |

I would never manually install wordpress because I wouldn't even be able to do it with the instructions probably. All I know is that there is a file called wp-config where you need to edit your username and password. To make things 27 times easier, just host through Hostgator. Then log on to Cpanel and do the 1-click wordpress install through Fantastico. Curtis |

Did you use the "Application" set up in Go Daddy- where you just let Go Daddy install it for you?

Delete and reinstall and write the user and pass down. If you know it make sure you are not putting in any spaces at the beginning or end. I agree with Curtis, DON'T HOST ON GODADDY! |

If it is a brand new blog, you can delete the directory and try again I set up about 10 WP blogs a month, so I can do it pretty quick. If you need help, pm me. |

If you let GoDaddy do the Install for you, there shouldnt be a problem. In fact on the My applications page, if you select the wordpress installation you just made, you will see the username and password.

I let go-daddy do the install, and everything was fine. It was after it was installed when I tried to log in to the panel that it won't let me install. I'm totally confused. |

I haven't had install issues with GoDaddy and Wordpress, but I did run into issues using some plugins that use cURL. I was on a Windows hosting account running IIS7 and PHP 5. After much hair pulling, I decided to go with Hostgator for my PHP hosting needs and never looked back. I do still have that hosting account for my .NET application development needs though. |

Are you logging in at the right place? To access your Wordpress admin area you log in at yoursite.com/wp-admin which will be your WP user name and password. The admin control panel where the files are installed at Godaddy will be a different access point and a different user name and password. Maybe you are trying to access your hosting panel with your WP user name?? Just a thought. Godaddy hosting is very confusing. |

Don't want to hijack this thread, but I've got a quick question about WP, too. I purchased my domain from Hostgator last nite and installed WP using Fantistico. I got the email with my login info, and I can login to my HG cpanel, but I can't get into my WP admin area, even when I click on the link in my email. I get a page that says it can't find that URL. Is this because it hasn't propagated yet? I knew it takes a day or two for the site to go live, but I didn't think I had to wait to login into my admin area. TIA for any help. And, Happy New Year, all! Debbie |

Probably waiting to activate the domain, although it typically shouldn't take that long. Since the admin area is in your domain folder, you will have to wait till the site is up to login.

What do you get when you type in the domain name in the address bar of your browser? If you get the "can't find URL" then it probably hasn't propagated yet. Make sure your domain is pointing to the correct servers (you would have received that information when you created the hosting account) | |

I bought the domain and hosting both through Hostgator so they take care of the server, don't they? I thought I read that somewhere. ![]() And when I type the domain name in my browser I still get the "can't find" message, so I guess I just need to wait ... it's frustrating though! Thanks.
