You must find something that you are interested in and make a product around it.

A good start:

1. Find a product
2. Research that product
3. Pick a domain name that has the name of your product in it (called keyword rich)

Then you can begin to create the way to sell the product.

Take a couple of days to browse through the threads, read deeper in the threads that interest you - particularly those by/for others like yourself just starting in this business.

Once you're familiar with the terminology, and understand the basic concepts, you should be up, running, and making some real progress (read 'earning money') by the time school starts this September!

Try to get into Journalism class this year and write for the school newspaper/website.

Somewhere, somehow master touch typing. That's the best 20-30 hours you'll invest in your future. It may fit into your schedule as a half-semester course, but you can do as well on your own with free typing tutors and cheap CD/DVDs. (Trust me! You'll be naming your first-born after me for this tip if you go on to college and graduate school. )

Read!

A lot!

The usual reading list in English class, but also very broadly in history, science, technology, engineering - and, of course, more deeply in business, marketing, and Internet marketing. This is where the 21st century is going, you might as well be prepared for it.

Again, learning speed reading makes sense - particularly for the choicest jobs in the 21st century. But you also need to learn some techniques beyond that. Mortimer Adler's How to Read a Book is still the best, and worth whatever struggle it takes for you to get through it.

The hardest part is doing the brainstorming and keyword research while you're trying to come up with a plan for your niche. The trick is to choose something you're genuinely interested in (if not downright passionate about), and checking that it's going to monetize well enough to be worth your time and effort.

For now, this summer, you might want to try to earn a few bucks doing odd jobs: nothing major, just a couple of hundred bucks to cover your initial startup:

domain name registration is roughly US$10 a year
hosting a single website for roughly US$6/month (or unlimited websites for about US$8/month on a yearly payment plan.

Everything else can wait until your business is earning money. If it fails, you're not in debt up to your eyeballs for the next 20-30 years. Flip the domain name and existing website, and go back to the brainstorming and keyword research phase!
