I've done some research and have come up with these possible ideas for IM and making money online.

I am not a newbie to computers, web design, coding, or graphics, but I AM a newbie to IM. Which of the following is my best bet?

-Create a social website fan seller (Facebook fans, followers, etc) and get a supplier

-Create my own e-book and market it online

-Create a website similar to (givesmehope.com) with submitted stories and get ad revenue

-Affiliate marketing, write product reviews and link to amazon/etc

Any help is appreciated, and if I left any others out that would be easy for a beginner let me know.

Thanks!

I actually recommend something else- selling services.

If you can build websites, do graphics, etc. then you can make some good money with freelancing websites, a Warrior Special Offer (WSO) or in the Warriors for Hire section.

Although services take time, if you're good then you're providing something that most marketers can't do themselves so its easier for them to outsource!

Plus, you don't have to worry as much about SEO, PPC, etc. Instead just drive traffic through the freelance site/Warrior Forum.

    Hope this helps!

I highly agree. I just recently joined AutoXTen (I'm picky, the last time I did one of these was 10 years ago) After 2 days I realized there was a huge need helping other AutoXTen people get a Facebook business presence so i am focusing on building their pages.

See my Sig for an example.

This old story still reminds me every day how offering services is still the way to go. I was driving down the street and there was a small house with a Mercedes parked in the front. Next door was huge mansion with a Ford Explorer in the front. I didn't quite put it together until a friend of mine told me the guy who owned the big house was a Mercedes mechanic.

Thanks! I do create websites, but I was looking into IM for extra money on the side when leads are low.

I will try for a WSO though, good idea!

What about my ideas though if I am set on IM?

Graphics are always hot, a guy in our inner circle is getting request all the time, all from word of mouth, but his prices are very reasonable and that`s what keep the people coming.

And yes a (WSO) on your services with an unique proposition would definitely do the trick.

Of course, you can go forward as freelancer. Don't go for big projects at the beginning. Choose simple projects first and be familiar with your working area. Next, try for big hits.

But what about my other ideas? If you had to pick the best/most successful route which one would it be?

All of the above could work if you apply yourself. I am implementing the affiliate model by ranking my sites using SEO. It appears to be working well and have a lot of potential.
Eventually I am looking to diversify though into a number of different models, but for now I'm focusing on that. I would suggest you find the model you think will work best for you, and stick to it for at least 3-6 months.

    All the best.

I'm into IM industry since 6 yrs and I always try to look for new IM models.

Currently, I'm also into services industry and I think, affiliate will be a good alternate. However all mentioned businesses are good but you really need to dive into it.

I would choose any one of the first three (#2 depending on what you plan on doing an ebook about and how much demand there would be for that). With your web building ability, #1 and 3 are a natural. You can always flip them on Flippa too as soon as they get some revenue should you not want to continue to operate them. The more revenue they generate, the more you'll get for them on Flippa.

If you have some expertise and can teach I would make a video series on that subject. People are always looking to learn how to create their own websites, graphics, etc. An over the shoulder view on this would be great.

Otherwise my preferred option is web2.0 affiliate marketing.

Awesome thanks for the ideas guys. I will definitely do a WSO for my web design services.

As for the fan seller, I a can make my own design, get a supplier (from here I guess), but is there any way to automate it so I don't have to forward the payment/message to my supplier? An automated way...

Also, where do I start if I want to go the affiliate marketing route. Say I have an idea, now what?

      Thanks everyone! You rock!

In my opinion, affiliate marketing is one of the easiest/fastest ways to start earning online when you get enough targeted traffic to your website. You can either use paid or free traffic to promote your affiliate links and earn commissions.

Paid traffic: PPC, CPC, CPM, fiverr

Free traffic: Google, articles, blog comments, social sites

        Hope this helps

First one was going to be great if Facebook didn't bring down every website try to do that. Twitter followers website are all over and not really worth it.

Try to come with something new. or study the market of the top niche websites and find their weakness. Just because they are on the top doesn't mean they doing it the best way.

I believe at the end of the day it is your marketing procedure is what matter and the design. I own a website that has a unique function that you can't find it anywhere else but without a pro design and enough money to market it. I am falling behind.

Pick something that you are passionate about a do an information product on the topic.

Make sure that you are filling a need, which means that the product you create should be for your customers and not for yourself.

Once your product is finished, give away some great content to your subscribers.

If you able to deliver great value, you will be very successful and your customers will love and support you for life.

    Cheers!

yes but you forget to mention the niche. Too many people just go about trying to sell something taht is doomed to sell from day 1, because they fail to do the research. So make sure what you are going to sell, has the need, has the drive and people are craving for it.

Even in this bad economy people are craving to save money, and get rid of debt, so they are good niches, or just examples. But make sure you are in an area that is not doomed, and you have done enough research to ensure you have lots of starving people that are there wanting and needed your product or service. That will ensure you succeed for the get go!

If you can build websites and create good looking graphics... you can sell them on Flippa.com

You probably won't be able to sell them for hundreds or thousands of $$ , but you can ask anywhere from $50 to $199 for a site with good potential. If it's establish (have over 1000 visitors / month and it earns anywhere between $100 and $300 a month) then you can sell the website for over $1500

It depends on the topic, keyword potential, domain name.

    Hope this helps...

Myself, I'm the administrator of GigsTrade.com -- If you do graphics and development, you can list your gigs there -- no charge (just a commission after your gig is sold)

Great insight. I think I will try affiliate marketing for a second stream, but continue to focus and build up my web design services.

I also have a 3rd project but it is long term.

So focus on web design, dip my feet in affiliate marketing, and that's it for now.

Where would I start for affiliate marketing? Figure I don't know what product to review. Thanks.

Article writing is a great way to make money, but don't join the crowd of $5 writers. You'll find yourself barely making enough money to live with.

If you write linkbait (i.e. in-demand blog content that holds a lot of value and will therefore get linked to a lot), you can offer it to top blogs in whichever niche you want to write for. It's not unusual to get paid $200 and upwards for a single article if it's long and packed with valuable information. It will usually take an entire working day to research and write 1 article of that kind of value, but it's worth it.

Seems as if besides my webdesign everyone is all over the place with my IM startup ideas.

This probably means that anything will work if you put enough time and energy and love what you do, but this is true for anything. I'm looking for whatever is in demand, and can make me a decent amount of money on the side.

I would like something that I can invest a lot of time/money, and eventually run itself.

      Casper, thanks for your input.

So you're saying find an un-tapped article topic and sell it to directories at a premium price? What kind of websites are you referring to and how do you negotiate a price? Or is it just whatever they think it's worth?

Can you send me an example to something similar you've written?

Build an email list - Then sell them affilliate products.

        The Basic Process..

Pick a niche your interested in.. Preferably something you already have some knowledge on.

        - Create an ebook with valueable content - relevant to your niche...

Build a one page website(squeeze page) offering your ebook for free in exchange for their name and email address.

        - Drive traffic to your squeeze page..

Send follow up emails with valuable content, teaching your list more useful tips etc thats relevant to your niche for a week or two..(builds trust)

Once you have built trust - Promote an affiliate product that you know they would appreciate hearing about..

Preferably a membership product as that would give you recurring comissions rather than one offs..

There are products out there that people are looking for...
As affiliate marketers it is our job to nudge them in the right direction-

so make sure the product you promote is high quality....

        - Do proper research on the product first.

I only promote products ive used myself. That way you know that its a high quality product.

If you keep your list happy, offering them quality relevant products, they will continue to buy through your affilliate links...

This is a very effective way of making money online but it does take time..

        - and a bit of work, but well worth the results in the end...

        Regards,

        Leo.

I read your question and read through the whole thread and I can say that this is probably the best advice you are going to get. Affiliate marketing can be really lucrative but first you need to be willing to put in the time and effort to build trust. Regardless of what model you choose, you still need to build a list. Your list is your source of recurring income and will help you to gain trust.

Read the above post again; there's a lot to learn from it.

            Syekahtik,
I would suggest you try ALL the ideas you have come up with. Spend reasonable time for each everyday. Build them for at least 2 months, and then decide yourself which one works the best. IM is like a real world scenario, you have to date a few girls before deciding with whom you want to settle down with.

P/S : Unless you earn good profit, do not spend much on unnecessary stuffs. Preserve your money.

Selling services is cool. I have done and continue to do that myself. The only issue is that services are hard to scale.

I think creating your video tutorial and market it online rather than ebook online.

The reason is most people prefer just video , very people have the time to sit down and read your eBook.

You have control over it and other people can help you sell video product (you can add ebook version to the mix )

Depends on what your strengths are though

What are you good at ??

What do you like doing ???
