Which way did the Senior Warriors make their first Dollar?

When my daughter was born (2 weeks ago!), the nurse came into our room, and asked my wife and I what we did for work for her records. My wife answered, "Nurse", and I answered "sales", and then after thinking for a moment....I added, "and I am in the early stages of launching an internet business!" The wife did not laugh, but I did and not because I'm joking!

There seems to be as many ways to making money online as there are products that are selling fool-proof systems to make money online (maybe not quite as much!).

After reading and studying (and buying) various sources of internet marketing knowledge, I've come to one conclusion:

I need to pin-point one specific area of this huge industry, and focus on learning everything about this one specific aspect until I:

1) Understand it
2) Actually Use it
3) Make it Work

....and then progress to including another spoke into my internet marketing wheel.

I won't begin to ask what area I should first focus on, as there are a ton of great quality posts explaining each step a newbie, like myself, should take.

Instead, I'll just start explaining (i.e. thinking aloud) what my plans are and what my current and next step is, and if someone were to offer an opinion or a piece of advise, I'd listen with both eyes wide open!

A question I do have for the group :

To get started, I'm thinking I am going to purchase one of the many websites being sold on this forum. One that is not too expensive, and already has some ad-sense, and affiliate products attached to them (clickbank, amazon, and I don't know who else?). I will make sure it's one of the less expensive ones (I saw a couple for 25 bucks (not including domain name and hosting), and then from there???

I will start marketing it. learn from it, and expand it. I have a feeling this is going to be a bit more challenging than I'm making it sound!

Regardless, this is what I'm going to do. And of course, I'll be educating myself along the way every chance I get.

If anyone would spare a moment to add to, edit, or just plain rip apart this post...I'd appreciate it. My objective is to build an online business for the long-haul so I can work from home and watch my baby grow, and oh yeah...make money doing it!

I agree, there are some really good ones at prices like $17/$27 or whatever. It's hard to understand how it pays people to sell them at these prices, but there it is.

Make sure you buy one with an opt-in
so that you start building a list immediately. Ask 100 different successful affiliate marketers if that's right, and I think all 100 will tell you it is - not just 97 or 98 of them. It's probably the single most important thing.

I can tell you what I'd do next ...

    (i) Remove the AdSense (because, for myself, I'd want to sell the ClickBank products, and wouldn't want the AdSense giving people additional ways to leave my site rather than staying there);

    (ii) Replace the existing "text content"/"articles" with my own, so that there's some unique content on the site published there and indexed there initially;

(iii) Subscribe to Aweber (only $1 for the first month) and avoid the mistake of starting off with a "free autoresponder".

    Good luck!

      Alexa's response gets my vote!

I got my first money from an eCommerce site I had built, but I've since moved onto ClickBank and the commissions are certainly a LOT better! At the same time I've been providing a variety of services while I was building up my website, that works well.

With ClickBank you have to find ways to keep people browsing your website, this means if you are going to buy a ClickBank orientated site I would suggest going for one that has a select few products, with plenty of content focused around relevant subjects to drive the sales, that is just my experience with ClickBank so far anyway, I haven't been using it long at all

P.S - Congrats on the newborn tierney

Whoops! I just noticed it says "senior warriors" , that excludes me from this thread I guess

Pick a topic you are passionate about and that you know fills a need.

If you want a snapshot of the long term, you are going to need to network, hire, trade, communicate, learn, and work day in and day out, to promote your chosen product or service.

This is why you want to do something that you really care about, it will make all the difference.

Once you have a product that you really care about, it is also going to half to fill a need for someone else.

    Here is an example:

Say you love the game of baseball. If you create a blog about baseball, and you talk about your favorite baseball team, day in and day out. Who are you doing it for? You, of course, you are not filling a need for someone else.

Now if you instead make a video series on the fundamentals of baseball, and you teach other how to play the game, even though you already know how... Now you are filling a need of someone else, and you have a product that people will be willing to buy.

The #1 problem with 99% of the products out there is that they have been built by people that are not passionate about what they are doing, and they are only looking to try and fill their own needs.

This is great if you yourself are going to be the one to buy your own product.

However your business might do better if you actually cater to the people that will be buying your product.

And remember that if you are honest and passionate about your product, you will succeed beyond your wildest dreams.

Make it your intention to be of the utmost help to those in your chosen area, and you will be destine for success.

And the great thing about choosing something that you are passionate about is that you will not only be wildly successful, but you will have fun doing it.

Here is an amazing video which can help you get started. Because transcription is costly, you could use the same method but use Dragon Naturally Speaking 11 instead of the transcription, and you will get the same results.

Once your product is created, you will be able to start promoting it, which will be much more engaging for you if you actually created it, or had a large part in the creation of it.

From there, there are literally thousands and thousands of ways to promote your product, and it will be extremely enjoyable, if it is something you are passionate about and you know for certain fills a specific need of others.

    I hope this helps.

PM me anytime if you have any questions, I will be glad to help.

If you can find a niche you're interested in, then writing a product for it is a cinch!

I think that's why so many Warriors promote products on the WSO section. They love IM- reading about it, talking about it, writing about it- but if something else is your thing ,maybe that can be your big $$$ maker.

There are marketers making GREAT money in just about every niche.

-Thanks Alexa! That makes a lot of sense about removing the adsense in order to avoid them competing with your higher paying clickbank ad link.

-And Murt, your comment and input is very much welcomed. I'll have to revise my thread titles...I believe I can learn something from everyone regardless of their level of experience, and you just reinforced that belief thanks!

-JT- now that is a great idea. Who wants to write a book, I'll "talk" a book!

and young millionare, and jt touched on this too- I agree with you both. I never grew tired of hearing my dad tell me. Find something your passionate about and the money will follow.

    thanks everyone.

    I'm getting started this weekend.

You can indeed, we all have such a different and wide variety of skills, this is why I think the WF is a great place.

Go for it, and put as much effort into it as possible! I wish you the absolute best success.
