New Warrior, new to IM.. A few questions

Over the past 12 months I've been looking to get into IM, mainly getting super excited about a particular idea and then discarding it once I realize it wouldn't work. Here's what I've tried and here's what I'm looking to.

I started a website last summer for business students who are trying to decide on business school or career choices. I paid for hosting, made the first page, then walked away (I'm a grad student and things got busy). My main revenue driver was going to be affiliate links to business and career books.

Next I tried article marketing. I read up on Yoga and wrote a how to article on ezine articles and another article database and got denied because of the affiliate link at the bottom and they said it wasn't original content.

Here's my plan.. and keep in my mind I DON'T know what I'm doing. I'd like to find out that my plan is stupid on this forum first, than waste a ton of time and be back at the same position.

I'm going to write my own e-book on a topic that I haven't found much on. I checked clickbank and they have NOTHING of the sort, even though it is a relatively large market. Google adsense tools also shows that it is a promising venture.

Step 1: Read several books on the subject, although I already have a good bit of knowledge and first-hand experience
Step 2: Outline, write, create videos to be used in the e-book as well as for advertising (unfortunately I found out extranormal can't be used commercially)
Step 3:Create sales page
????
Profit

Questions: If I just create the sales page, send the e-book off to clickbank, and stand back and watch.. nothing is going to happen, correct?

What else do I need to do? Should I be working on building my own website centered around the website to drive traffic? It seems like a lot of clickbank products ONLY have the sales page, and just has affiliate marketers directing them there through articles and other websites.

I've been reading hours and hours on the forum and other websites and It's a huge learning curve but I really want to start getting this thing going.

I'm imagining ~100 pages with 10 or so videos showing exactly "how-to" do something. There's a big gap at least from a student's perspective between material on the importance of the topic, and actually HOW to do the topic.

I hope this is well received and I get some valuable advice. Everyone on here that I've read seems to be very helpful and encouraging.

    Hi and welcome also.

Product creation, tied in with list building on the back of it, is a great way to earn so the core of your idea is very sound indeed plus you already have a niche in mind and you have done some due diligence. All good.

If you are going to put it up on CB, what you need are affiliates to be interested from a EPC perspective.

What I would do, if I were you, is maybe build a targeted list in the area you are looking at, do a trial launch with them, if its targeted and you build a relationship with the list you should have good conversions, then you have something to show potential affiliates and hook their interest, list size doesn't matter hugely here, conversions speak for themselves

Marchenzo, could you maybe ellaborate on the list building? I don't currently have a site for the product, and I don't have a list, much less a targeted list.

Mervyngoh, good point, I'll look around.

No problem. I don't know what your niche is or your ebook is on, nor should you reveal it, but lets say its about "Plumbers Who Need Grooming Advice For Their Welsh Cardigan Corgis" (you would be amazed how often it comes up)

Put up a squeeze page with a free quality report, on one of the issues or problems that your niche is having, in exchange for the opt in. Drive traffic to it, either ppc or by going to where you know these people are online and talking to them directly, again the variables are dependent on your niche, but let say their is a forum/site for PWNGAFTWCC, etc, thats where you want to go to.

Set up an autoresponder sequence, giving only top quality free info on the problem, or whatever it is, build a valued/valuable relationship with your list over a period of time and then build up to the launch of your ebook, building your list behind you in the interim too, launch it, get sales, then go looking for affiliates and you grow it from there.

There is a literal ton of information on the WF on all aspects of the above, but thats a bare bones layout to it

Ok, so it seems it's not as simple as just writing a book and sending it to clickbank.

I'll do some searching (and discovering what a squeeze page, quality report, opt in (they give their email I'm assuming) and an auto-responder are) and get started on this!

You will need some way of driving traffic to your product, and a list is an excellent way to get targeted traffic and build trust before presenting your prospects with your paid offer.

Here a short explanation of some of the terms used:
Sqeueeze page: A simple page offering your free report/product in exchange for people's email.

Autoresponder: Service/software for collecting emails and managing your email list. Aweber is the one I see recommended most often here on WF. I also use it myself and I haven't had problems with it.

There are several pieces to the puzzle- as mentioned the autoresponder, squeeze page, traffic, etc.

I think you'll find that the hardest thing to do is get traffic! Forums, articles, and videos are great free ways to do that.

That was my next question - traffic! I'm thinking... why would anyone come to my squeeze page?

So squeeze page to get emails> direct traffic to the page through articles (I'm going to need to see examples), and youtube videos, and forums > send them emails maybe weekly with quality tips and information, also building up the e-book> e-book release> clickbank

More questions, and thank you all for your help so far.

If I get a few hundred email addresses, should I send them affiliate links to relevant sites and try to start generating revenue that way or should I stick with quality information first?

Should I build more than a "squeeze" page for this niche or create an entire site with 10-20 pages?

Do you all have an LLC or some some sort of business entity for your "companies" or should that just wait until you actually have some revenue to report..

Is there a topic in this forum, or a website that can give the basics of internet marketing and affiliate marketing? I see a lot of great ideas all around this site and on the web, but I don't really understand the application of it.

Ie: backlinking, writing articles, guest blogging ect.

I think I need to start here before I look at more advanced methods.

Also, if anyone is willing to hear my idea for an E-book and give me an honest opinion, I would appreciate it. I don't want to publicly announce as it might give the idea away!

The one thing that stands out to me after reading your post was that you said Clickbank has nothing on this niche... that's a warning sign to me. A sign that the niche may not be a buyers niche - many of them are not.

Anyway, I'm not trying to discourage you, not at all. But before you spend too much going down this niche, you need to prove to yourself that it is a "hungry" market to be in. Doing so now will save you many hundreds or thousands later...

I just tried to pour my heart out to you Troy, but my post count has to be above 50 heh.

But the thing is, I know there is a demand for this material and the videos I'm going to produce. It's not really narrow, but I could split it up into a couple different target sections. If anyone wants to PM me their email I would love to divulge my ideas so you can see for yourself.

Troy brings up a very good point. Every marketer who doesn't give up after the first week is always searching for the magical secret niche, with no competition (sellers, affiliates, or products). Now don't take this the wrong way, but the first two ventures you tried you quit on. Are you sure with that level of effort you found one of the highly sought after niches? Probably not.

Look for a niche thats proven to sell. Become an affiliate and sell some of their products while developing your own. This is a good way to start networking in your niche. By selling for your competition (and being successful) they will turn around and help you at your product launch. Turn your competition into your allies.

Good point, I wanted to disagree but in essence you're correct. It wasn't that I quit out of lack of effort, but more-so foreseeing that it wasn't going to work out.

So if I take a niche market product from click-bank, would I create a website around that product? How would I drive traffic to the hoplink?
