Do You Love Google Or Do You Find It Despicable?!

I mean, few months back my new domains were doing better crossovers than Dancing With The Stars, but my older domains that are now 4 months and older have permanently discontinued their Merengue. Of course, some consistent marketing was required on my end, but it pays off once people find you either by ranking or having your content seen.

Perhaps not such thing as hatred for a machine, but for ideal clients, do you love Google or despise it?

Neither; I've never really had much use for Google in my niches, so anything I'd say is totally irrelevant.

Then the question is, if they took that income away (whatever % they contribute - directly, and traffic as well) for no rhyme or reason, and no recourse ... would you feel the same?

When I was making 6-figures a year, with my online business, I was very charitable.

I gave a lot to charity and helped a lot of people through their hard times.

One particular beneficiary was receiving nearly $1000 per month from me, and they received that money from me every month for several years.

I did what I could do to help them out in tough times.

But when my yearly revenue dropped to $84k, I could not be as generous, so my charity came in smaller packages.

Then when my yearly revenue dropped to about $55k, I had to completely stop helping that person.

Financial considerations determined how much charity I could give and when I would give it.

Was the recipient of that charitable donation mad at me for stopping? NO, because it was and it always had been a gift from me.

Disappointed? Maybe, but they did not blame me for leaving them out to dry.

What we are talking about as far as your Google rankings is exactly the same as those charitable gifts I gave others when I was riding high on Internet Marketing.

Google 'gave" you a ranking in their search engine for free, asking nothing in return from you.

Then one day, they shuffled things around, and the benefit you had been receiving dried up.

        And you are mad?!?

Any person who is mad at Google, because of lost rankings, is mad about lost charitable donations to their website.

That in my mind is the very essence of "entitlement mentality", and I for one am saddened by the fact that you accepted the charity and spent your gift unwisely, and now you are mad at the entity who quit giving you the charitable gift.

I say you spent your gift unwisely, because when the gift went away, you had not built a business capable of surviving without charity.

        Shame on you!!

I neither love or hate Google. To me it's simply one of many distribution channels that I use for my business. If Google went out of business tomorrow, it's impact on my business would probably be under 1% of overall traffic that we get.

Google has made my life a lot easier. I remember web search before Google. I was just a kid, but I remember it--and it sucked. As much as Google gets a lot of flak now, their search is more than satisfactory in my opinion.

Do I love Google? No not really. I work in SEO at my job and some days I really get tired of having to try and hit a constantly moving target. Do I hate Google? Depends on what they are announcing that day lol.

Honestly, if you have good content you love Google and Google loves you. It's when you start looking at off-page SEO that the waters begin to get murkier and murkier.

So from a business perspective I really prefer other forms of traffic generation (Facebook, forums, guest posts, banner ads). Doesn't mean I hate Google, because I certainly don't, but that's not to say they don't frustrate me sometimes.

I have a hate and love relationship with Google, sometime it treats me well in the search engines and sometimes not. Sometimes it punishes a site to be deindexed and other get lots of love, it's always up and down, but we are al playing the google game becasue that's where the money is.

Don't get me started on Adwords PPC, OMG, spend way too much money there with no result, I'm sure I could do better with a little help, but even with the Google employees tweaking a campaign it's still expensive, hate them for that .

SEO wise, I love Google, there you go , hate, love, hate, love....

I used to love Google, but then they started messing with things and it's slowly turning to hate since they started..

    Deleting our adwords accounts
    Reducing our adsense earnings
    Deindexing our Google news sites
And a bunch of other stuff that makes using the search engine annoying.

Whether I like them or not doesn't matter- you have to learn how to play by their rules if you want a piece of their action.

Like other people have said, you don't have to rely 100% on google search traffic- but for niche sites with low or crappy competition, there is no substitute for the free, high-converting traffic that google sends you if you're in the top 10.

I would say thats debatable. Forum marketing works REALLY well for these kind of sites. On top of that you can use PLR content if needed (since you don't need to worry about rankings) and make money with Adsense. Better yet, forums are usually free, free, free!

Somewhere in between. It's still the largest and best search engine, but for how long? In some ways, it operates like a typical large bureaucracy. For example, I recently had my AdWords account banned. I didn't really care, as I hardly used it, and had just been experimenting with what I though was a legitimate landing page, but apparently Google didn't see it that way, lol. But I still get offers every few days for $100 AdWords coupons -which, even if my account hadn't gotten banned, I shouldn't be eligible for because I already used it. These are basically trivial matters, to be sure, but to me they're evidence that Google may be turning into a corporate dinosaur, as the left hand clearly doesn't know that the right is doing. I still use it every day, though. Their future may depend a lot on how the Google+ experiment pans out.

Google is something we can't live without now... They have virtually penetrated into every area of our lives (email, advertising, google maps, google docs etc.)

With great power comes great responsibility... I want to see Google becoming more responsible especially towards marketers who deserve a second chance (those with their adwords accounts suspended and have a valid reason why they should be reinstated)

They're downright despicable as far as I'm concerned. I'd love to see either Bing or Yahoo take them down a few rungs off their high and mighty ladder, either that or trip and fall over whatever latest Google Dance steps are that they decide to do next.

I have two content sites, original content, not even in the IM or make money field; and I play by the rules, but they still deindexed BOTH of my static sites for no apparent reason except that maybe they pulled my straw out of the hat that day.

My traffic was just starting to take off; about 150 unique a day steadily and I guess someone at G didn't like that. So now my traffic is lucky to hit 50/day and I'm rather peeved.

The last time they did this, my customers went from 2-3 sales a week to NONE. And that has happened again. Thank you Google. You can now kiss my ****

I'm now so ticked off I don't even want to add anything new to my static sites anymore because I almost feel like it's going to be a complete waste of my time as far the Big G is concerned.

My blogs are okay, so I guess that's where all my new articles will have to go now.

Did I have "all my eggs in one basket" so to speak? Possibly, although I rank high on Bing and Yahoo for my primary keywords across both of my sites, but I don't get much traffic from them.

I've been using Facebook and Twitter and just recently started using onlywire.com and yesterday launched my first video remake.

Alas, YouTube is owned by the big G so I'll be distributing my new videos across the board too because I just don't trust Google at all anymore.

I like and use Google. They're the best at search and that's why everyone uses them. I sometimes wished more people used Bing/Yahoo so I could get more traffic, but the flip side is nobody will ever use them more until their results become more like Google.. lol

      Do I love Google?

Hardly. They have some applications that I find more useful than the alternatives. I find their search results accurate if I use the right queries. Getting traffic from them doesn't suck, even though getting that traffic is mostly a side effect of other things I do.

If Google disappeared tomorrow, something would take its place; I would adapt and move on.

      Do I find it despicable?

Nope. I find some of their practices heavy-handed and arbitrary, but that's about it.

Google isn't Perfect, but honestly, despite all the "Google-Hate" out there, they have done a great job. They've innovated the internet quite a bit, and I honestly don't think that the internet would be where it is today if it weren't for their creativity and solid service.

There are two sides of everybody here. Most of you love Google from a user standpoint, but are frustrated because you don't get the love you feel you deserve from a website owner's standpoint.

Just take a second to think about how much less you would love Google as a user if all of us got exactly what we wanted as website owners.

    Just a thought.

I definitely feel the temporary pain myself when those instant Google adjustments are done in their algo and by the Google team itself, but it's all about adjusting and being able to, well, kiss my %$% Google but being able to adapt fast with them and playing by their rules.

My older domains, no changes in traffic, same old article marketing style type of marketing. Probably would have done a quickie if I were younger, single and if Google appearance were a bit more tangible, but for the domains that were not aged enough, I was their starting MP, just like the military, having to wait long enough to actually climb up the rankings.

In your case it seems Google did temporarily screw%$#$ you, knowing what exactly you did on a weekly basis to trigger that red flag is what always brings my interest. The more the better, PM if you like or reply, would surely be fine knowing the site that dropped theat amount of traffic and what where you exactly doing to get traffic. For late at night that's just makes a nice digging with a latte for me! The more info the better ks'@@@

But yes indeed, I still love Google, they will keep being #1 for quite a while, let's just see what happens with Facebook so called future search engine!!

My site was de-indexed before I started doing anything any differently than what I'd been doing. I launched WP blogs onto my domains for shorter articles that were in my general industry but not directly related to wedding or party "favors" specifically.

On my transcription site, I launched the blog for shorter articles and product reviews of things that aren't specifically pertaining the general transcription field.

I did article submissions, Twitter and Facebook marketing, same as I've been doing all year.

It's like, as soon as I started generating traffic, like you're supposed to do when you launch a site, either they never bothered indexing the site at all, or they'd only index one page of the site every several weeks or more.

So I started doing some backlinking projects like legitimate link exchanges similar to what you see on the right sidebars of these pages:
Memorial Bookmarks for Funerals and Memorial Ceremonies
        Military Wedding Favors

In other words, I don't run "link farm" directories on my site. I'm very picky about the links I put on there and they've been very highly rated sites that I've done link exchanges with.

Then the other day, AFTER the de-indexing, I signed up with onlywire.com to do some social bookmarking as a way to start replacing my lost traffic with other sources.

And that's about it! So article marketing, Twitter, FB and link building. Pretty basic white hat stuff. That's all I've ever really known how to do till I started coming here regularly.

So, what, Google doesn't like weddings or general transcription? I'm stepping on somebody's toes like maybe TheKnot.com got ticked off that I was beating them on some good keywords? Or a long-standing larger transcription company was upset because I was ranking higher for "transcription services" than they were?

        I don't know.

This search for my bookmarks site "site:www.mysite dot com -/support-files" results in ONE page (it was THREE pages yesterday! So they're still screwing with me and I haven't done anything with anything all week!)

This search 'site:wedding-favor-bookmarks.com' results in all of my blog posts but none of my static site's pages except one.

For my transcription site, "site:www. my site dot com -/support-files" results in only two pages, neither of which is my home page. In fact, one of them's my privacy policy page, like who's going to be searching for that?

'site:ksmusselman.com' results in my blog posts and that's it for that.

So I'm about fed up with them. They won't tell me WHY they won't index my site. In fact, they never got around to indexing any more than 15 pages of my entire 70+ page site before they start deindexing them one by one.

I've gone through their guidelines trying to find a reason. I've asked them in the message/comment box when I ask to be reconsidered, like - would you mind telling me WHY because I'm in compliance with all the rules.

So it's like, I'm trying to play by their rules but they're not paying any attention to it. They're just doing whatever they please because it's like they're the monopoly and they know it. so hhmmpphhh I have to try and work my two businesses and my blogs around them - video, social bookmarking, building better facebook fan pages, what - ever.

It's like, I was just on here a few days ago getting some tips on focusing on just one thing to get things moving and BAM - that one thing requires TRAFFIC and Google just zapped me there - again.

I just know I'm tired of it all. And it looks like I'll have to rely solely on my blogs to carry my site which I do NOT want to do.

You know, Google's starting to remind me of Comcast/Xfinity in some ways. A monopoly. They've gotten so big they don't care about the little guys anymore. It seems like they've got all us webmasters by the you-know-whats so they play whatever games they want and no one can do a thing about it because they're just about all we have.

Google AdSense, Google Search, Google YouTube, Google +1, Google Gmail, Google this and Google that. Well, they're not playing very nice if they keep changing the rules on a whim just to suit themselves.

Google might NOT be indexing your index page and just some of your sub-pages because you've the same content as other sites you may own.

Go to Copyscape Plagiarism Checker - Duplicate Content Detection Software for Bookmark Wedding Favors and Custom Laminated Bookmarks for All Occasions.

The results and what you might see when you get to check: wedding-favor-bookmarks.com

The page below has 1,259 words matching 100% of the page, as highlighted below:

Yep...that's the index page, and surprised it's only 1,259 words only, so with recent Google algo updates, my experience, it's not your marketing, but your on page SEO.

If it's article marketing that you're doing, fine, they're one way links that won't penalized you. But putting the same articles at the bottom on other sites you own, that's a correctable mistake

Highly consider making the modifications with the articles at the bottom of your website, I'll personally remove all the articles at the bottom and have exclusive articles published in the same spot, but content that nobody has published already.

I am sure that's one big piece of the puzzle, cheers.

Google is like a "huge" baby to me.... you can play all day with it and it will be happy but if you do the slightest mistake it starts crying ( kicking your website in it´s behind)

So... yeah, Google can be a pain in the a$$!

Perhaps not such thing as hatred for a machine, but for ideal clients, do you love Google or despise it?
    Huh? What?

Google is a tool that allows users to find information on the internet.

Google was not intended as a means for marketers to make money.

Most internet marketing websites are garbage. Admit it. You're not providing anything of value. You are pumping out websites to make a buck.

Don't get butt-hurt when Google sees your site for what it is and removes it from their listings or removes you from adwords / adsense participation.

Google is a business, they don't owe you anything. You are not forced to do business with google.

Marketers have made Google the trash listing it is today.

I think that about sums it up.

    Have a nice day

Part of the intention was definitely to allow businesses to make money using their search engine. Without that Google would never start their business. Our favorite search engine exist only because "greedy marketers" want to make money using their service. Without that there would be no Google.

Plus I really don't think there is any rule to play by when it comes to SEO. The only rule they have is to not have a rule. That way, business owners will get frustrated and start using their paid service, which adds to their bottom line. Makes perfect sense to me.

If they really wanted everyone to follow certain rules, they would make the rules clear for everyone to follow. But there is none. Their business is to create confusion and chaos surrounding their ranking system and make money off of it.

To answer the love or hate question, I don't hate them as I don't have a reason to. But I cannot trust them completely because of their constant effort to collect private data of their users without consent.

I use their search engine, it is useful. But I haven't found a reason to fall in love with them(yet).

I love them when they aren't helping the despotic government in China censor and hunt down dissidents-they definitely have some nasty Karma to work out on that one.

I love them, however, for putting me on page 1 for a local search term less than 8 hours after I submitted a video-can't complain about that!

I rely heavily on Google. I use it's gmail as email service, search using it almost every day, using it's site to host some of my image, music, and video (that way I don't have to pay much for my server), and I use google apps and google calendar on daily basis.

I love google because it provide almost everything for free. And i find out that paying google often times cheaper than paying my current server.

I like Google a lot because I find their services useful when I have something to search online I also always use their gmail and g-chat for personal and business purposes.

Google's services are also useful for my work. Google Analytics, Google Keyword tool, blogger and much much more. All of them do make my work much easier.

If Google was my brother-in-law, I can not say enough good things about him. :-)

Over 10 years ago, when I was laid off from my corporate job, and Google saved my butt.

I was learning SEO while helping small businesses build website with sticks & stones methodology. Over time, I mastered the art of SEO, among other essential skill sets; have helped many small businesses succeed with a small online advertising budget.

Despite it's minor flaws, Google is basically a good company, and I will continue to support or use it's many products & services.

Overall, Google has done countless wonderful things for me, and have put countless loaves of bread & butter on our dinner table to enjoy.

I wish the same good fortune for everyone involved in Internet marketing! Your day will come soon.

      It's very interesting...

Now I see why Google hired a dozen law firms. Metaphorically, Google isn't a monopoly! Nooooooooooooo, of course not! They're just Google friendly to the consumer and business competitive to the competition, but NOT a monopoly. Ah, yeah, right Hurrah, aha! But it isn't 1998, so I am sure Bill Gates will keep his eyes open at what ultimately happens!

Google is a corporation, not a benign force of nature you can always count on to do the right thing. Some people have made millions from SEO, while others have lost their businesses due to Google's punishing them for some unknown reason.

What does that even mean-to "manipulate" Google?-it wouldn't be much of a stretch to conclude that all SEO is an attempt to manipulate Google-into giving your site a high ranking.

I guess AltaVista, Yahoo and WebCrawler were the grandma's of search engines!! Since they all preceded Google by at least 3 years.

Only people who don't know what Google wants will hate Google when they are a new webmaster.

Simply put, Google wants to find a link to your website from a source they trust for good information.

So long as Google can find your website on its own, through a link from a trusted resource, then Google can find your website quickly.

Here's for instance. If you help other people make money obviously you'll earn much more in return. See around you its been followed everywhere even in hollywood and google perform it best.

Google provides a service that we all greatly rely on and they make the internet a more organized and easy-to-use tool. However, their corporate nature and greedy tactics have no place in an entity as powerful as they are, there are some things corporations shouldn't control for reasons of ethics and search engine algorithms are one of them.
