I've used the wishlist member plugin with good success in the past. It's easy to set up a membership site and their customer service was very good to me when I needed help.

Hi, there are few wordpress plugins that I can think of now:

    Member Wing
    WP eMember
    Digital Access Pass
    WP Member
    Magic Members
    Wishlist Member

To be honest from the above list I can reccomend - Wishlist Member. Hope this helps.

    Have a great day

Good post as I was wondering the same thing, I'm hoping for some more detailed responses as to why someone recommends a certain plugin/solution.

You should take a look at: http://www.wpsalesautomator.com/

DON'T be put off by the name, it's an excellent membership plugin and it's free.

If you want to go with something paid, WordPress Membership Plugin - Membership Script For WordPress Blogs And Regular Web Sites is a membership system I've used since it first came out and I recommend it as the best I've tried. It has an unbelievable amount of features.

BTW - neither of these are affiliate links

Good links everyone, I've got a lot to check out. Now my other question is setting up an affiliate program using Paypal. This may be a stupid question...is that handled through Paypal or through a plugin?

Actually it costs $9.95 not a lot but not quite free :-)

Amember is another option which is very comprehensive and has a wp plugin. It is not cheap but proven.

I also use wishlist which works but is limited in its functionality.

Opimizepress is a theme which has a number of uses which includes a basic membership function and easy to use.

Affiliate programs are either set up using a payment processor like Clickbank, DigiResults, Commission Junction etc, or you set up your own one.

If you want to go down the membership and your own affiliate program, then Digital Access Pass is probably your best option.

Thanks UMS, I'll look into Digital Access Pass for sure.

You can actually build a WP membership site for free with the right plugins:

registered-users-only-2 locks the site so you have to be a member to see it

Register Plus Redux lets you customize the registration fields and registration page header

Aweber integration makes it so when someone registers, they also opt into your list

I've built a lot of membership sites using WordPress and we use WishList member on every one. I spent a lot of time researching options and tried and tried to find a good "cheap" way but without question, Wishlist has been awesome.

WP Member Champ is good, simple, easy to set up. Under $100, too.

Guess I have my research cut out for me, but it looks like Wishlist is pulling out ahead of the pack according to your folks experience.

Digital Access Pass is superior to the rest because of its Tru-Drip feature that I believe you can't find anywhere AFAIK. And the support is very good.

We really need a stickied thread about membership plugins, we seem to go through the same list every few days.

There is now quite a wide range to chose from with significantly different prices and features lists. Almost all will do the basics, but they all have their strengths and weaknesses.

I tend to steer people towards DAP, Your Members and MemberWing, just because all three have been around years, have great feature lists and offer great support plus Ravi (DAP), myself (YM) and Gleb (MW) can always be found here on Warriors to help people out.

I use Wish List and Magic Members and prefer Wish List by a lot. It's easier to use, has more features and better support. By better support, I'll give you an example. My Magic Members site wasn't that easy to get it up and running and fuctioning well. I submitted a support question. Instead of answering my question, they just wanted my Wordpress login and they configured it themselves. That leaves me completely in the dark as to what they did so that I could set up another site using it.
