Just starting out, please help!

Hi everyone. I'm just beginning my first SEO venture and I'm about two weeks away from going live. My first question for you "Warriors" is that for the next two weeks I have time to plan my SEO strategy but sadly I have no idea where to begin. I can't do backlinks yet until I go live right? My site will be in html and the goal is to get people to fill out a form. Obviously my SEO strategy is to get as high as possible in the search engines within my keyword niche but I'm reading so many conflicting backlink strategies from the senior members here (i.e relevant vs irrelevant links, LSI, signing up with this person or this person etc.). I don't mind paying monthly for backlinks but who do I use? What's the most I can do before getting sandboxed?
So, any strategy advice will be much appreciated. Remember I can't go live for two weeks so what can I do to prepare ahead of time? I hope I haven't asked too big of a question, sorry.

Thank you all so much!!

    Hi Melissa,

Whereas I would be the last person to pour cold water on your ideas -- can I ask your objective?

Are you just doing SEO for traffic?

Remember -- all SEO is -- is a traffic generating technique. Sure -- a good one if you get on page one -- but that is very tough.

If it's purely traffic you are after -- I would suggest an easier (and quicker) way -- is to look at Social Media (and I mainly mean Facebook).

Also FanPage posts now turn up in the SERPS -- so you still will be harnessing SEO techniques.

I hope I don't sound negative -- I really am impressed with you doing this -- I just think SEO is not the first choice to generate traffic.

    Kindest

    Chris

I wouldn't advise paying for links. First, when you stop paying, many of those links will go away. Secondly, Google is looking for real links to our sites - links that come about because we have a worthwhile site to link to.

If I were you, I would concentrate on offering good quality information on the site, and do some guest blogging for blogs in your niche. That will give you a nice backlink. Also, do some article marketing. Do the right things to get those backlinks, and over time, your site will move up in the rankings.

That's a great tip... That answered my question as far as paying for backlinks and as far as just being patient and doing things as you mentioned in the latter part of your comment....

SEO is good but a you need to know exactly what you're doing: onpage, offpage etc

Normally 2 areas people will get stucked into:
      1) Keywords
      2) Backlinks

Study that 2 area and you shoud be ok (i hope)

I'm also just getting started. My website is up and running and I'm getting alot of comments, although about 98% are spammy and unrelated to my posts. Is there a way to get backlinks from the "good" comments?

I know that you can get good back links through article marketing, because when you submit the articles to the directories you have the link to your url in the resource box. Even though you won't be live for two weeks, you should start this now because it takes time for the articles to get through the submission process and get accepted. Plus, it is going to take a considerable amount of time for you to write the volume of articles that you will need to get a lot of back links and exposure. Just make sure your articles are always original and relevant to your site, and use your keywords wisely so that your articles can be seen as much as possible.

          Good luck with everything!

Place posts in your site & start with article marketting, you do not want to have a blast of backlinks as a start go slow & steady.

Focus on the on page SEO first and produce high quality content people will actually find value in. This is important in actually making money as well as SEO. As you work on that just try to learn a bit more about SEO and when your ready, develop a nice backlinking strategy.

Personally, I would try not to think of SEO strategies. They're forever changing. In the 2 weeks you have to prepare for things going live, I'd be looking at networking opportunities, both within social media and with other websites in your field.

Congrats on the preparation part. You'll do well, I'm sure.
