Default 2009 Trends in Diets, Fitness, and Health

Hey everyone,

I've done some research into the top trends for 2009 in the diet, fitness, and health general categories and I thought I'd share. You may get some ideas for affiliate promotion or even product creation from the list.

But, word to the wise...
We will continue to get fatter – 75 percent of American adults are projected to be overweight in 2015

Hope that helps someone on this first day of 2009.

I wonder what this means...

Firing smokers? Not hiring people because of their weight? Limiting what kind of foods you can eat during your lunch breaks? What exactly does intervening in an employee's health decisions really entail?

A recent article I believe based out of the state of Alabama stated that they were looking into charging $25 per mth/year? for those who were overweight. So that could be the employers intervening on health related issues due to higher costs of health care.

I have been reading about employers who are making healcare surcharges to health plan costs for overweight employees - you ge the money back if you slim down.

You can read more here:

oh I forget to mention one of the biggies was corporate wellness/corporate fitness programs that were on the increase ...this also ties into fitness bootcamp workouts as we in the fitness industry are running corporate fitness bootcamp programs...as part of the corp wellness prog...bootcamps are extremely hot right now with ecomonmy and the fact that they work as far as getting results, adding community atmosphere and fun As you can tell I love them...and I have been running them for last few years..
definately add corporate wellness to that list !

That's right. Companies have figured out that people who are out of shape, smoke and overweight are more likely to get sick and take time off than healthy and fit people. This puts a huge burden on their healthcare. Can't recall how much, but apparently the savings is quite significant by taking this action.

I would question how legal it is, though. Isn't that some sort of discrimination? I guess their legal dept will figure a workaround.

it was mostly a google search for "diet trends 2009", "health trends 2009" etc. I tried to list things that came up time and time again. Of course, there is some incest in the "trend predictions" genre because (even journalists) swap from one another. There's one guy who wrote a list of 3 "cookbooks to watch for 2009" that shows up everywhere - from press releases, to EZA, to actual articles in newspapers.

I started trend watching in High School when I read "The Popcorn Report." I love the Toefflers for deep stuff and read 4-5 books a year on current trends. Trend watching is a hobby of mine, so I thought I'd share.

Are you familiar with DNA based nutritional supplements. You send a sample of your dna to genewize, and they evaluate your dna profile to see what vitimins and various nutrients you are lacking, and build a customized vitiman supplement specifically for you. If you'd like more info ya'll can go mygenewize.com/kibbys

It would probably work the same way insurance companies handle clean driving records - by offering a discount.

So everyone would be charged the same rate but if you don't smoke they would discount your premium x% and if you were in the appropriate weight category they would give you an additional x% in discounts.

Same as credit cards - you can't charge your customers a service fee for using their credit card (its against the merchant account TOS) but you can offer a discount if someone pays with cash.

LOL...The food trends list made me hungry! Thanks, Stacy. This is a wonderful starting point for some keyword research, blog building and article marketing. And a great way to start out the New Year!
