This is for Google plus right? Yikes. My FB profile is private and it has remained that way for a really long time. Looks like I won't be taking part in G+ after-all.

You're going to fail. If you're afraid of failure then you do not belong in the Internet Marketing Business. Period.

Thanks for that, I didn't hear about it.

All you have to disclose is your gender and name though - which is less than is disclosed on a private FB profile - so its not big deal IMO.

Yeah, but is there an option to JUST display that publicly while also displaying more information privately? It seemed like that you'd only need gender/name to have a profile, but also that any other information you display is also shown. I could be wrong.

You can set each section of your profile so that only people in your circles can see it (or only certain circles), or anyone on the web. You can be just as private as you can be on Facebook, if not more so.

Can't say I'm surprised- the internet is very quickly erasing the concept of privacy.

Of course, we also have choices- you don't have to join FB, Google+, etc....

        From the OP's link:

        Public profiles
The purpose of Google Profiles is to enable you to manage your online identity. Today, nearly all Google Profiles are public. We believe that using Google Profiles to help people find and connect with you online is how the product is best used. Private profiles don't allow this, so we have decided to require all profiles to be public.

Keep in mind that your full name and gender are the only required information that will be displayed on your profile; you'll be able to edit or remove any other information that you don't want to share.

If you currently have a private profile but you do not wish to make your profile public, you can delete your profile. Or, you can simply do nothing. All private profiles will be deleted after July 31, 2011.
