How do you actually use proxies? Lets say that I want to use them for general internet usage and manual commenting. How would I change my IP to one of these proxies? Is there a program out there that allows the user to randomly change their proxies every couple hours?

A couple of easy to use free services for starters are anonymouse.org and hidemyass, bear in mind you will be sharing IP addresses with some of the most shady operators out there, these might already be blocked by spam filters like askimet.

Some high end operations use dedicated servers based in different cities to provide a private proxy.

Then you don't need a proxy. Just sayin'

Now, if you wanna go bat **** crazy on a couple thousand wordpress sites, let's talk proxies.

Whatever tool your using, if it allows proxies (most do), you enter your proxy in the field provided.

If you're trying to facebook at work, Hide My Ass! Free Proxy and Privacy Tools - Surf The Web Anonymously does the trick unless you have fairly intelligent IT guys.

But really, if your askin' about proxies, your thinking about doing something creepy.

Here's how to use a proxy (if you are using firefox)-

Find a proxy you want to use. You need an IP and a port number

    Go to your settings

    Look in advanced.

Goto "Configure how firefox connects to the internet"

    Select "Use a proxy"

Enter your IP and port from the proxy.

    Click ok.

There you go. Your IP is now that of the proxy.

If you are using firefox then this addon will help you.

      Proxy Tool

"Proxy Tool - Powerful, yet User-friendly proxy tool to manage your proxies and anonymity needs, including: 43M+ user agents (world's largest), 10 different spoofed HTTP referrers, auto-proxy rotation, plus many more."

You will need to find your own proxies and it's not really that hard. Just Google 'proxy list', check the page, if there's a list of proxies copy them and add them as needed.

You can try this software from hide-my-ip.com for 14 days and see if you like. I tried it before and found it easy to use. I didn't purchase it because I don't see I need it.

Go to your browser and click Tools, Options, Advanced, Settings then put your proxy and port number, click Manual Configuration, then Save. Then click Save again on the last window.

You can go to whatismyipLookup to check if the ip indicated is that of your proxy.
