Interesting Google search results experience that led me straight to Google +

I just ran a quick query here in Google.com and searched for "seo articles". Interestingly on the 2nd page, I noticed Matt Cutts' blog about half way down. The link pointing to SEO Advice: Writing useful articles that readers will love

That wasnt what took my attention by any means. What did take my attention was Matt's profile pic on the very right of the search results. See it?

I then clicked on his profile pic and guess where that landed me?

Google +

I then found myself browsing his profile page within Google +

Has anyone else noticed this or am I just late to the party?

I wonder how you get that to happen! Would love to be able to connect my sites or at least my blogs like that...definitely helps get attention to your listing!! Could be REALLY sweet for my organic rankings!

That is crazy! But I just saw it today when I entered google.com. I usually use google.lt and there is no such feature.

Now what is left to know how to show that photo. That would definetely grab attention

Id say youd have to be an actual member of Google +

Im not sure how much of an impact this will have on SEO, search results and Facebook.

At a guess, Id say....a pretty big one.

The question on my mind is has anyone seen a picture like that anywhere else of someone that isn't a massively high ranking member of Google itself?

I'd be interested to find out more about this.

      Cheers Jonny.

Now that is the first time I ever see something like that...
Wonder if Google has it's hand in the pie?

    Actually good question Richard.

Is there anyone here that has an active Google + account where they can verify this?

Is everyone seeing the same image I am?

Yes I can see the image this end too Jonny.

Like you I'd like someone to come here with a Google + account to see if this part of it or just something Matt has. I'm inclined to believe this may be part of it though.

We'll have to wait and see. Well done for posting this though, it's very interesting.

There is a feature in your google+ profile where you can list the links where you are on the web. Now that you mention it, maybe we can get sites indexed faster this way.

Wow, So this is all because of Google+?
I would like to verify it. Sad to say, Google + is not yet operational for all. They limit the members for testing.

      It's not because of Google+.

Google Tests Content Authorship Spotlighting - Search Engine Watch (#SEW)

The rel="author" tag, introduced earlier this month, was presumed to be mostly a preventative measure against the scraper issues that remained prominent in a post-Panda world. That may still be a core reason for rel="author", but it's certainly not the only purpose of the tag. Google has started an experiment that boldly spotlights the authors of content around the web.

The author's picture and name are displayed to the right of the SERP result. Both are clickable, and direct users to the Google Profile of the author.
