Cannot figure this out myself so hoping some expert here knows the answer. I tried to search for a thread this may have already been discussed, but couldn't find one. Sorry if this is old hat. I have done some SEO for Google on a few sites I have - have been able to place in #1 and 2 positions - but only from "tweaking" and crossing my fingers! I will say that I have no backlinks on two of my sites - both have high competition - so not sure what that is about. I am about to put up another website - traffic will come from purely typed-in. The name of the website is a long tailed keyword - which is the same keyword phrase I am using to check the search results on Wordtracker. WT displays over 700/day, while Google Keywords displays about 70/year. Another example for the word "sleep": WT displays 56,000/month while Google's Keyword results are 6 million/month. Can anyone explain which one I should be relying on for accurate info? I think I am misinterpreting something Maybe the Google keyword search is for Adwords users only?- sure don't want to put up a website relying on typed-in with only 70 searches a year. Thank you All - I hope someone knows this answer. |

Wordtracker fetches its data from different search engines, but I don't think that its data includes Google searches. Whereas google keywords tool probably fetches its data from its own database without bothering with the search engine data.

This is one of the most powerful, effective and yet under-utilized link building technique for getting links from authority sites which can make Google fall madly in love with your website.

That may be true about Wordtracker, but SEO Tools tools.seobook.com/keyword-tools/seobook/Seo Book Keyword Suggestion Tool Gives the same results for Google searches for the word -Sleep - that Wordtracker gives - and both are really different than what Google Keyword Search gives. I like SEO Tools better, as it breaks down each SE result. |

Why The Google Keyword Tool Is Useless For SEO, Even With Exact Numbers As you have mentioned that the numbers obtained from Wordtracker and SEO Book tool are "comparative" and trust me this is the case with every other Keyword tool including Keyword discovery. But if you compare the results from adwords tool to wordtracker then they simply don't match-- like WT is giving 50/day (1500/month) and Google is giving 50,000/month. This "huge difference" can only be explained by taking into consideration the fact that Google earns money through Adwords and hence their "research tool" is expected to give inflated results to encourage PPC bidders to spend more on keywords. In the StomperNet Package: There is one Red Disc by the Title of "The Quest for keywords" in which a presentation is given by Dan Thies (Regarding Keyword Research) and this is what he says in one of his slides about trusting search engines which are giving "Keyword research" data: "Beware of "free" keyword research Offers from PPC engines--Their Goal is to increase your spend and overall competition, not your profit " Moreover he clearly says that Wordtracker is the best tool, even better than keyword discovery. For SEO: The keyword research "data" from PPC engines is useless since that is serving their business interest related to PPC advertisers. For PPC: Trusting the keyword research "data" from tools given by PPC search engines is like handing your wallet and saying take what you want ![]() Bhupinder

Thanks John! I think I am already doing what your book is outlining, as far as long tailed keywords, but since you clearly know more than I do, I am buying your book. |
