I set up an affiliate blog using Wordpress and have it set up so that the posts show up if the primary URL is searched or typed in. I would like to change this and set-up a static page as the homepage and have the posts on another page. I already have a couple hundred backlinks pointing to the primary URL. I'm concerned that by making this switch I might lose these backlinks. Am I safe making this change or should I leave well enough alone. Thanks for the help. Mar\k

    No you won't lose backlinks.

You should have links to your inner pages from the homepage. This can be in content, via navigation menus and/or sidebar widgets.

Thanks for your help. It's very much appreciated. I had all the internal links set up, but I guess I'll be going back to establish links to the new homepage. Cheers, Mark

    Hi Mark,

All backlinks will be safe. - However any rankings you may have aquired for your homepage may temporarily drop due to the content change.

Here's how you change to a static homepage within your Wordpress dashboard:

Go to the "Reading" option (under "Settings"). Now under the "Front page displays" heading, chang this from "Your Latest Posts" to "Static Page (select below)"

Then just choose your homepage from one of your already created WP pages and you're done!

Thanks for the advice. I don't mind a temporary blip in rankings. In the long run I think the changes I'll be making will be beneficial. I've created a homepage that I've saved as a draft that will be a much better introduction to the site than just going straight to the posts. Again, your help is sincerely appreciated. Cheers
