Should I have a buyer's e-mail list?

I will be launching a WSO soon and am wondering if I should give it away for free when people join my e-mail list or if I should sell it for a small amount like $1 and have the buyers be on the e-mail list.

If I give it away for free I will end up with a much larger e-mail list.

If I charge a small amount then I will end up with a smaller list but each one of them will be a buyer.

My goal is to make money from my e-mail list by interacting with my subscribers and occasionally promoting targeted products.

So which option do you think is better? Is it better to give it away for free or charge a small amount?

I think you should opt for the second option. A list of buyers is more valuable than a people who took something free.
A good list of buyers can be a gold mine.

There certainly are very strong valid points for either method, and depends on your market (experience, etc), range of products, marketing style and myriads of other factors. Split testing can be your friend. But what I have found over the long term it's faster to generate income and actually much more profitable with a smaller list of proven buyers over a far larger untargeted list of perhaps mostly free loaders and curiosity seekers.

Well, a buyers list of people who paid $1? I don't really see the difference. I would go with the first option. I'm of the opinion that if you provide a lot of value to a "regular" list, you'll still get a lot of buyers.

Well, the difference is that in one case you have a list of people who have either credit-cards or a PayPal account and are both willing and able to use them online, and in the other you have a mixture of those people along with far more other people and no way to tell the difference between them.

Personally, I would sell for $1 and an opt-in, rather than for just an opt-in, without any doubt at all.

I don't have huge lists, but I think if the list is targeted, you take care of your list, and you promote solid quality stuff you can sell to people who opted in for free.

Well, it kinda depends on your situation...

If you don't have a list at all - then offer it for free as you will get more prospects and you can then convert them into buyers later (or present an OTO after opt-in)...

If you decide to charge for it - make it be a dimesale - as in it starts at a dollar and tops out at $5 - doing it this way though you will not likely end up with more than 100 on your list...

    Good luck

The problem with this is.. that if your posting it here for Warrior members you are going to have a tough time selling a feature or features because the majority of us are pretty savvy when it comes to buying.. or seeing a scam and running.

I agree and disagree with this statement...

I agree that Warriors are more savvy and can tell a scam better (or let others know about it quickly)...

But selling on the WF is likely one of the easiest marketplaces to get started...

In what other marketplace can you list your product and get a handful of sales and affiliates in the same day?

The WF has over 250,000 members and gets much more traffic from non members and you nearly always have at least 2,000 members browsing the WSO section...

If you want to build a list, per se, of prospects, then go with your first option. If you want to build a list of buyers, sell your product at a good discount (it's a Warrior Special Offer, after all) and build it that way. So let's say you have a product that you could sell on ClickBank for $27, you can sell it as a WSO for $5 - 12, you'll get some income to offset any or some expenses and you'll be building a buyer's list as well.

Both methods are proven to work. Some people will offer more than one free WSO to build their list and then their 3rd or 4th product will be in the $10 - 47 range and they can contact their list that they built.

    Good luck!

I would go for a low priced product and over-deliver on it.

Even if you do offer it for free, I think you might get more interest from people if you don't specifically state it is being free in the WSO Heading.

I think most people tend to browse the WSO Section looking for stuff to buy rather than a freebie. I do anyway!

If you have a variety of products, you could give some away free, to build a list and sell some for $1.

If you alternate between the two you could build up a large list of potential customers.

    Hope this helps

Having an email list is where you will make your money.

That is the real gold and that's where money is to be made =]

I've been keeping my buyer's list for a long time now and it's been generating money every time I send out an email.

I always build an buyers email list to all my products. Its important to have such a list that will be your biggest asset. I tend to send to this list more targeted and valuable content as they know me, know my product and I want to treat them the best I can.
