How to post a 'signature' correctly when leaving a comment on others blog posts

I am hoping that someone can please help give me clarity on what the best way is to include your 'signature' at the end of a comment when one has read a blog post and has submitted a relevant comment based on the information contained in that blog post. I believe it will not make much sense to just put your name and surname as your 'signature' as this will not link back to your own site.

I would like to learn from others in my field by reading blogs relevant to that field but in the process I would also like to create links back to my site.

If I were for example to use 'Legitimate Home Business' or 'Work Towards Satisfaction" as my 'signature' at the end of my comment on that blog, I am not sure how that would create a link back to my site if bcc or html code is not permitted to be used to include my actual website under my comment.

Can someone please advise me what the correct way is to create my 'signature' when commenting on blog posts to ensure that I will be creating an effective link back to my site with every relevant comment I post which is approved.

I really look forward to receiving feedback in this regard and thank you in advance for your kind assistance.

Most blogs don't allow you to use HTML, so what I do is put my name @ the keyword I'm targeting. For instance, if I'm targeting the term home business opportunities, I'd put josh @ home business opportunities.

Mst blog owners prefer that you at least inclue your name, and not just a straight keyword. That's probably your best bet for getting your comments approved and relevant anchor text pointing to your site.

I agree with Josh- I was just doing a few comments yesterday and did Name @ Keyword.

SEO wise I dont think its as good as just putting your keyword, but I'd like to think its better than just your name as the anchor text

      Josh and Justin,

Thank-you both for that straight-forward feedback.

It is good to know that I will now be doing the 'right thing' when commenting on blogs instead of incurring the wrath of those who write the blogs by unknowingly adding a signature incorrectly>

      Much appreciated.

Yes, use your keyword as your name, it's the best choice to avoid akward html on comments.

I always use keywords instated to name since my first objective is pulling traffic. True, many bloggers don't like it. Trick, write informative and useful comments help to increase the value of original post. No problems with comment approval.

Don't bet on it. IF (and this is really a big IF) the comment is really useful, informative = contributing to the discussion, not just in itself(!) then I may approve it but I will edit it mercilessly and delete all the keyword references from the name/url fields

Yes Sscot and I may just change your link to the URL of one of my other sites, then I'll write a very smart Alec reply to you in the blog post thanking you for a great contribution to my site and I'll even say how I thoroughly enjoyed having a look around your site and I'll recommend other readers do so too.

Same here, I tend to edit the keyword stuff out, and contact info too.

Of course, if the blog has CommentLuv installed, there's no problem leaving your latest blog post in the signature. Then readers can see up front whether they want to hop over or not. (Well, you two started it!)

          Cheers

That's the reason why blog commenting doesn't work.

          Hi all,

Thank-you for all your input and value regarding my enquiry.

I guess this is a bit of a cache 22 situation though so I will just have to follow my heart here and hope the signature choices I make are accepted for the value I add.

Lots of food for thought here and many divided opinions. Ultimately I guess, no matter how valuable your comment may be, you are always at the mercy of the blogger who moderates their own comments and no two bloggers moderate the same way!

I agree with josh and justin. I also put the keyword to my name. Then the url to the website. If you put a link after your comment, chances are it may not get approved.

    • As a blogger I mercilessly delete any post with keywords instead of a name. I don't even read the comment -- it doesn't matter. I know other bloggers who do the same. Quality blogs aren't desperate for comments. And for those that are, consider how easy it is to remove your keyword and links...and just publish the comment.

When I comment on someone else's blog, I use my real name. I'm trying to join the conversation as a personality, hopefully an interesting one that inspires people to check me out. It's worked so far.

Using a keyword makes your comment look like spam - and the blog owner feels "used" for link juice...

You can try the CommentLuv plugin and leave comments on ComLuv enabled blogs. This will leave a link to your latest post at the end of the comment. Just make sure the title is keyword rich.

Apparently there are some SEO benefits to using ComLuv. But I'm not an SEO fan so I can't speak from experience.

Personally I don't mind if someone uses their name @ keyword, but I don't allow additional links in the comment itself. I suggest looking to see if comments formatted in this manner are approved where you are wanting to place your comment. If there are comments of this nature already approved, I would place the first comment I make on that site without a keyword attached. After that is approved, then try it with a keyword.

I wrote a thread on this the other day.

I think you need to give a reason for people to click yoru link and give results in advance.

I mean why should people go out of their way to click your link.

ALso give value and dont just post one liners such as 'wow great post!' people can smell spam a mile away on blogs these days.

Add value to the blog posts and delicately direct them to your site. if you do your job properly and create curiosity, then you can do really well from this. Remember getting traffic from high niche blogs is very good for getting targeted traffic to your site. And that means more chances of making sales and profits for you. Dont abuse it.

I think just using a keyword has long been ineffective. Few moderators let those stand.

Actually, I have blog posts having 50-70 comments! All legit and their name links to their website/blog.

I even allow real TBs (trackbacks) and pingbacks if my blog is mentioned in relevant and related posts.

Because they are genuine. That's the key here, if you didn't realize yet. They post something and link back to a post where they found a solution, so others can read the same tutorial if they needed. They link to the post as a "thank you". Or come back to post something on the original post.

They don't come to my blog with the intention to get a link for their crappy salespage.

Blog comments were invented for social interaction; TBs and PBs for allowing the blog scripts to communicate with each other...

Spamming idiots deserve to get their spam comments deleted.

Do you have any argument that could convince bloggers otherwise???

Here is the thread I posted a week or so ago.

It has to do with blog commenting, and how I realised it was actually not a science but a pure art form that if done correctly can make you alot of money.

    Hope it helps ==> http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...s-artform.html

Yes the trick is to put a relevant comment and in the name field your name-keyword, but only if there is a your url field, if not, it does not worth you invest time reading the blog post.
Ad if it let you to put html tags then try to make the link natural.
