Article Marketing ===>>>Tracking Question

The following are the two basic steps in article marketing

Step1: Searcher comes to my article at ezinearticles, after clicking on my article Title in the Google results page.

Step 2: Searcher clicks on the link in my resource box at EZA and goes to my website.

Now for Step1: EZA will provide the data as to the number of page views and resource box clicks for every article and hence the tracking will be done automatically as to which article is performing or not.

But for step 2: How will I know that a visitor clicked on which resource box, belonging to a particular article, to come to my website?

Is there any method by which tracking can be accomplished for step 2?

Thanks
Bhupinder

    Hi Bhupinder,

If you go into your members area on EZA you will see a tab that says "Author Tools". Hover over that and then click on the link that says "View My Article Reports". This will bring you to a page that shows which article received a URL click.

If this was not what you were referring to, please let me know!

    Regards,

The ? at the end says: what is following is an environment variable.
Some scripts use environment variables, but if the page doesn't use an environment variable it is ignored (but still logged)

So in the case above, you could add different looking links outbound and perhaps EZA will track them as different links. On the landing side though, they all point to the same page.

I'm not sure how google and duplicate content goes into effect here, but your incoming logs will show the queries and you can manually track that way.

I'm sorry that I don't have an account on EZA with articles prepared to test this. Hope that helps.

Here is a thread where we went into a pretty deep discussion on tracking your articles and web 2.0 properties. There is some PHP code you can use to track for free in that thread.

    http://www.warriorforum.com/main-internet-marketing-discussion-forum/11369-conversion-tracking-i-need-track-everything.html

You can also get some tracking software that's available. The paid software is pretty good depending on your needs, I like Affiliate Prophet.

There is some free software as well, Tracking202 (service) and Prosper202 (self hosted) that can track your articles or other links. They are designed mainly for PPC, but can be used to track any link and the click through rate of your landing page as well so you know how it is doing.

    Are you doing affiliate marketing?

    I hope this helps

Thaks for providing the link Stangracer, Going through it right now.

If a snippet of code can do the tracking then thats the ideal solution since I want to keep things simple and yes this is my first month with article marketing.

Just a thought, will Google analytics do the job If I put its code on my site?

Article marketing is the easiest way to earn money and to broaden your knowledge. It helps to incease the popularity of the websites. The article should be attractive and content full to drive traffic online.
Welcome to the warrior forum but trust me you won't get far by spamming!

Your very welcome, I thought it was easier to let your read the thread then go through the same discussion again over an extended time period... We'll try to get you up and running quickly.

Quick question: Are you affiliate marketing or marketing your own products?

The reason I ask is if you're marketing your own products, you'll need the tracking software as I don't have a tracking backend for the code provided in the thread.

From what I gather from other Warriors Google Analytics won't track it to the article, but to the site only...

So it would say visit from ezine articles, not which article it came from.

Your best bet is either tracking software or the PHP code we used in the thread provided.

Pretty much the same discussion we had in that thread.

I think the PHP code will work for you, like it did for Alex.

If you have any questions just ask.

I'll be happy to help you out.

    Thanks for your reply Christian

What I am referrring to can be understood by an example:

Lets say I have Two articles on EZA: one is targeting "How to lose weight" and the other one is on "Lose weight fast".

Now Obviously, I have two different resource boxes for both articles and when a reader is going to click on either one of those he is going to get to my website.

But here's the problem: How will I know that whether he clicked the resource box on Article targetting "How to lose weight" or on the other one targetting "Lose weight fast".

Now this problem will be seriously compounded is someone like me is thinking about doing 10 articles/day on EZA.

I hope its more clear now.

By your reply, this is what I have understood:

In the resource box of each site I add the keyword after the ?. So lets say my keyword is "How to lose weight", so this is how my resource box will look like

To get more information on how to lose weight you can go to www.mysite.com

Notice when you hover over the anchor text and the link it shows "http://www.mysite.com?how+to+lose+weight"

Is that what You are saying?

BTW.....The links that you have provided take me to a page where I can download some files, are they related to what we are discussing here or were you just giving an example?

    Thanks

      Thanks
      1. Yes, but no need to link 2x: My website shows you how to lose weight
      2. Those were videos I made yesterday for another thread, not related, though if you have feedback on them, I'd appreciate it.

Again, be careful that you don't get duplicate content penalties.

      how to lose weight
      and
      http://www.mysite.com/

Will actually be the same content on your same site, from 2 different links. I am not sure of how that is going to play out.

Here is Stan Gracer's solution form the post he recommends ... I just explain it differently. I think his solution is better than mine:

      On EZA:
      <a href="http://yoursite.com/landingpage.php?id=1">link 1</a>
      <a href="http://yoursite.com/landingpage.php?id=2">link 2</a>

In your Landing (review) page html code at the top you put this code:
      <?php $page = $_GET['w']; ?>

Now in your clickbank hop link for the TID you do this:
      <a href="http://yourhoplink.com/?tid=<?php echo "$page"; ?>">buy it</a>

Then click bank has reports on the TID that was passed from link X to your buy it button

      Good solution Stan

      Oh... Here ya go:

You add a variable to your links:
yoursite.com/landingpage.php?w=sq1 (squidoo page 1 for instance)

In your Landing (review) page html code at the top you put this code:

      <?php
      $page = $_GET['w'];
      ?>

Now in your clickbank hop link for the TID you do this:

      yourhoplink.com/?tid=<?php echo "$page"; ?>

You can set it up quickly on a different page and run a test to make sure it works...

Go all the way to the order page and make sure your 'nickname.tid' appears at the botom and you are all set.

Then configure your actual pages once you are confident everything is working and test them all.

There are a few ways to do this with php script, this is just one variation.

You'll need to read the whole thread as we go over if your cloaking your affiliate link and doing in a single landing page or a landing with multiple pages before the cloaked link page.

There is a lot of good information there...

If you have a specific requirement just let me know...

Do you explain all of this in your WSO

      Thanks

      Bhupinder,

In my WSO I show how to use Prosper202 to track each individual link, whether it is articles or any other link. The cool thing about using Prosper202 is you can cloak your links from the affliate network and provide clean links in your articles.

So as you expand you can use other techniques to drive traffic and continue to track your results. It works in a similiar way to the PHP code.

Prosper202 adds a unique subid to your affiliate link. Then you go into your affiliate network and gather the subid's that converted and update Prosper202. Once you update it provides you the big picture in the software.

But the code I provided above will work for you. You create your links with a different variable per article. Then carry that variable to your landing page, and add it to the affiliate link. Then when you go into clickbank you can look to see what is converting into sales.

It utilizes clickbanks built-in tracking capability.

You simply keep track of which articles are pulling in the sales and tweak your campaign accordingly.

You can go the paid Tracking Software route as well. If you decide to purchase I would recommend Affiliate Prophet, it also tracks a visitors time on page using the AIDA formula and has some other cool features. It will trck each indivdual article as well.

You can do a Google search for ad tracking software and such.

It sounds confusing but it really isn't that bad.

If you have any questions just let me know...

P.S. And since your are doing article marketing with EZA, you might want to follow this post:

Step By Step - How to get the MOST out of an Ezine Article!

It basically is a way to get your ezine articles working harder for you by posting to other article sites.

      Pretty slick trick.

Also get some more backlinks as well... It's a win-win.
